      [quote=\"snowlotus\"]Hi Y2 parents,

Have you bought the things for OBS? Any idea what kind of 'wet shoes' for water activities are suitable? Did you bring your kids to the tetanus injection though they already had it when they were in P5? According to the packing list given, seems they need to bring a lot of closthes, is it really need that much?

Any current Y3 parents can advise and share your experiences? TIA.

DS had done health chk and already certified by doc fit to participate. The health book should indicates the immunisation jabs taken. There is no need to reinject again.

Health check done. There was a deadline, I think..

Haven't looked at packing list yet. Ok, MUST look at it this weekend..

Snowlotus.. There was some discussion on OBS on pages 330 & 331..

I have several pairs of RI shorts - still new - size 26 (2 pieces), size 27 (2 pieces) and size 28 (1 pc). DS grew out of them. I am giving away, if u don’t mind used ones.

Thank you Firefly38! Only one day and heard from so many well-meaning parents - warning about how selfish RI boys are and how competitive etc. Sigh…

Hi 2B Mommy - welcome first of all to the RI family.

In any school, there'll will always be the negative side of the story. My ds will be in year 3 next year (just like firefly's ds), they're all happy there and enjoy the school life pretty much. My ds doesnt think his classmates are selfish - he said they're fun loving and sociable.

so don't worry - let your ds settle in and enjoy 🙂

are you sure they are well meaning ?

most parents' experience have been very positive

the boys are anything but selfish...they do so many community projects unpublicized, they share notes, upload them to anyone who needs them....have you seen / heard of the open lectures they do to help the \"weaker\" among them ? and for any other students in singapore ? and they stay back to help their friends in study / project works

you must be quite suay to encounter such parents in day 1.....but be assured, not to worry, selfish kids are in every school and they the small minority

you & your DS's experience will change your perception

DS1 is aiming to for RI in 2015 (psle 2014). My brother has promised him an ipad if he gets in. Could someone please advise whether ipad or laptop would be more useful in RI? Don't want to get too many gadgets for DS1 if possible. Thanks.

It depends on whether you want to give him a toy or a tool...

May the Force be with You.

the boys can also use the pc in the library...but if anything can motivate him to do well to get in, it is worth it....that is the point...if he can get in, even 5 ipads you will get him, no ?

                        Agree with Verysuperkiasu & pirated..

There are selfish pupils (& parents) in any schools, branded or neighborhood. I simply do not understand why people think that this 'problem' exists only in good schools.. 🤷

From what I have observed of DS' friends, the boys are respectful & polite, helpful & caring, cheerful & fun-loving. They play hard and they study smart. My boy has had 2 fulfilling years in RI, and I am sure he will continue to enjoy the remaining 4 years there..

Different people have different views about things. We cannot stop people from having negative thots, but we can choose NOT to be affected by their negativity..

So, do not let these negative remarks affect you & DS. Don't 'scare' your DS even before he joins RI. Your DS is a smart boy to be able to make it to RI. I am sure he is able to judge for himself. Don't worry, your boy will have a great & fun time in RI, like most of the boys here do.. 😄

Have a nice holiday.. & Merry Christmas !! :celebrate:
