Each class has 35-36 students with 22-24 girls, except for 1J and 1K with 28 students. As sg.angel mentioned, total is 379 in 11 classes.

They will be reporting to school at 7.30am on Monday. They will start late at 1pm on Wed but the activities end at 8.30pm. Any idea what kind of orientation activities they will be having?[/quote]
Yes, instead of the normal 12 classes, there are only 11 classes this yr for yr one. But the 2 SBGE classes each has 28 students as compared to 25 in the previous yrs.
As for orientation prog, just to share a little bit (my dd said cannot disclose too much), there will be induction tour & games, bonding games, cheering & singing and of course the grand finale on Wed night. Sorry parents are NOT invited! Only dinner on Wed will be provided. There will be 2 recesses on each of the first 2 days for pupils to have their meals. So pls bring money... Enjoy! -
They allocated my dd to one of this 2 classes but she's not a GEPper and her t-score is only 261! Could they have possibly put her there just in order to åę° ? :scared:
According to her brother (who never been in such classes), those who got into these classs are saddled with much heavier workloads than the rest, plus if it's true that they are for mainly the GEPpers and top mainstreamers, I'm worried that she may not be able to cope and may get too stressed up :scared: ..[/quote]
According to my dd, the workload is just very SLIGHTLY heavier, not that much difference from the other classes. Also, i believe there are very few GEPpers in DHS. In my dd's class, there is just 1 or 2. Majority of them are mainstreamers, either high t-scorer or DSAed
(academics/general). So not to worry, as long as she works hard, she can make it! Anyway, no matter which class you are in, you still have to give your very best. -

Thanks for the reassuring words. Besides the \"slightly\" ( :scared: ) heavier workload, my main concern is whether she's able to catch up with the rest of her classmates; and will the teachers look down on her if she fails to meet the expectation?
Agree that she'll have to give her very best.. just that her very best may still be good enough..
BTW may I know what are the additional workloads that your dd has to take up?

I've been giving my ds $5 a day and he said it's quite adequate
Anyone can share what cca dhs is good at? At least it makes \"shopping\" for cca during the exhibition easier. My dd was in Red Cross before and enjoyed it very much. But she's having 2nd tots on St. John's in dhs as she might want to try something different. -

Feedback from my dds is that most of the teachers in DHS are kind and helpful. They will not look down on pupils who are weak or slow. They are most willing to help as long as pupils are willing to learn. Of course, pupils must show initiative to seek help before or after school when encounter difficulties. Don't wait for teachers to come after you...lervin:

Just heard that the sister of one of my dd's classmates scored only 256+2 was allocated to 1 of the 2 SBGE classes. Not sure if this is a DSA case. Anyway, guess there's a wide range in terms of t-score in these 2 classes. So nothing to worry abt!
Regarding the extra workload, after some probing, realised there's really nothing much. Only in subjects like Geog & History, there's a few more questions in their assignment. Some questions might need a little more explanation... My dd estimated the extra work can be done in 15 mins. ok maybe a little bit more reading to be done... And that's ALL, for the rest of the subjects, they have the same assignment as the rest of the classes. -

Ya so far my experience with the school teachers have been very positive too..
It's a relief to know that the extra workload comes from Geog and History--considering that my dd is strong in writing essay, I guess she won't have much difficulties dealing with that.
As for the case of the girl allocated to the same class with 256, I believe she's a DSA case: I notice that this psle batch's maths and science papers were unexpectedly easy and because of that, those who are very strong in maths and science would not be able to enjoy advantage in their t-scores.. So even if the DSA students do not obtain high t-scores, it's very likely that they possess much higher ability/potential than S1 posted students with much higher t-score . (Which is why I don't know why they put my dd in these class since she's not DSAed and her t-score is merely a point higher than last year's median--if I remember correctly.)

DHS is strong in chinese orchestra, choir and for sports, it is good in table tennis and wushu.

Most students enjoy what they take up. In my opinion, what cca the school is good at is not very important. The natures of Performing Arts (Chinese Orchestra, Symphonic Band, etc), Sports (Volleyball, Table Tennis, etc) and Uniform Groups (Girl Guide, NPCC) are very different. Some are aesthetics, some depends on physical abilities, and some are more group work. The more important considerations are the student's interest (e.g. outdoor vs indoor) and inclination (any prior skill vs want to try something new).
Not so sure about what cca dhs is good at.. Myself am trying to persuade dd to take up either St. John or Girl Guide as I believe the skills they pick up would be very useful, but she doesn't seem to be very keen..
