so if she spends $1.20 that day, 30 cents flow over to next day & we will top up to $1.50
Hubby said no incentive for her because she didn’t get to save that 30 cents. I feel that this is money management, $1.50 doesn’t mean she has to spend all. If she’s particularly hungry that day, there is excess money to buy more food. Otherwise keep for next day lor. Must know how to manage.
She doesn’t buy stickers or stationery though. She knows pocket money is strictly for food. No cold drinks or crackers either. Hot milo or hocklick is allowed -

My daughter is going to P1 next year. Interestingly, she asked me the other day if she could bring her own "bento" (lunchbox) to school. (I suspect more for the novelty of the lunchbox rather than its contents).
While I am happy to do this, I am a bit perplexed as to how to do and sustain it. I’d rather not pack a meal in the fridge the night before - not so fresh and I doubt the sch canteen has a microwave for reheating!
So, does anyone have any ideas how to effectively prepare a lunch box for a kid like this? That can remain fresh until 10am-ish, and also cost effective?
And no, we don’t want to wake up at 5am to cook a fresh meal! Have barely enough sleep as it is. Thanks! -

and i was worried that my boy will be the only one in his class bringing a lunchbox. so now i am assured that he has company.

I tried 'sculpturing' some funny octopus using sausages the other day and my practical son just told me that i don't have to do it again as he didn't want to waste my effort...cos food afterall is for eating only. :lol: Having sons vs daughters! -

when my husband saw the bento-blog, he was lamenting that those with daughters are so lucky! (ie parents have opportunity to do up such stuff for daughters) :lol: -

I gave my girl S$1.60 for pocket $$. 30 cents is a die-die-must-save amount, so in essence, she can only use S$1.30. This is to help cultivate her habit of savings. Sometimes, we gave her 2 days’ worth of pocket money and tell her to manage it, but still must save 60 cents minimum. We also take time to explain that daddy and mummy would always set aside an amount for savings before spending; so sometimes, that’s what she will do as well. Oh… and she also brings her "bento" - sandwiches and such.

It's really a good idea on teaching children saving. I will use it to my gal, but I saw the canteen food in school, it's really lack nutrition, maybe lunbox is a good choice. -
we intend to pack a snack for our son going to P1 this year and give him 1 dollar pocket money each day. based on what i’m reading this should be sufficient right?

just came back from the recess.
i'm letting my boy purchase food for 2-3 days a week cos i think it is part and parcel of the school experience (but i'll let him pack food if he feels more comfortable to eat homepacked food).
like just now, his buddy brought him to sit down...then my boy reasoned that they should queue up to buy food first.
then the food he wanna buy was sold out. how? he decide to buy biscuits, but mummy said buy bread :idea: (i didnt want him to go hungry wat...).
then his buddy wanna bring him go somewhere to sit, he told his buddy must sit with class cos have class 'signage' in front of some allocated seats.
then his buddy went to buy his food, my boy's classmates wanna sit beside him, my boy said the seat is reserved for his buddy.
then he can't finish his food. how? i told him to tie it up and bring home.
while he eats, he keeps track of the time.
he'll have to decide what to do on his own next time.
pocket money...we have not decide yet (had given him $2 but told him that it is subject to reduction)...will monitor his expenditure in the next week.
