Actually, I have no confident that she spent the entire 4 hours learning CL. With her favourite Roald Dahl Treasury on the same table. Hard to stay focus for entire time, I know. Well, just give her benefit of doubt lah. I am prepared to see 70ish or even 60ish marks for this and coming ones.

Still, 4 hours is a long time. I tried to keep weekends free of schoolwork for my dd. Succeeded last year, however, didn't seem to be working this year...I guess I will be expecting more homework in subsequent years....

My dd's Chinese teacher is very strict. She will scrutinise every character and nitpick. Sometimes, I don't even understand what was wrong. For eg.the character 都, she corrected my daughter by emphasing that the 丿(撇) must be longer, stretching above the 土. I was like...huh?! I checked the dictionary and she did her correction in the activity book, by writing the 丿longer by another 3mm. Haha...So when it comes to tingxie and moxie, we are extremely careful when writing each character. Nothing escapes her eagle eyes.

This reminds me of my girl's P1 chinese teacher...also very strict (maybe its the same one). She corrected my girl's writing of her chinese name twice. Me scratched head, compared with dictionary and stuff..in the end asked her to follow the teacher's instruction.

Starting from last year, the CL teacher is marking the comprehension in a very strict way...if the points are not written down, that answer will not score full marks. His CL teacher explained that this is the expectation at PSLE and the kids must start to give complete answers from P3.

This teacher you mentioned ? Does she teach lower or upper primary ?
My son’s handwriting is atrocious and if she teaches my son’s class, I would see an improvement in his handwriting. I have been telling him to write neatly and nicely to prevent marks being lost. Teachers are not going to be patient to figure out what he is writing.

My dd is P2. She mentioned this teacher taught P1 and P2 last year. I am not sure whether she had ever taught the upper primary before. Her current FT taking them Eng and Math taught P4 last year. I guess some teachers do move around. Perhaps only the P5 and P6 teachers are more fixed.

I heard from a friend whose 2 kids are in P4 & 5. She told me that teachers who teach lower primary will be sticking to those levels. Those in P5 and 6 are the more experienced ones as they gotta prepare the children for PSLE.

My son is in P4 this year and already I’m feeling the stress. Dare not imagine the pressure he faces next year. My neighbour has a son in P5. She told me her son mentioned ‘STRESSED’.

I know of teachers moving from P2 to P4. You are right, the P5 and P6 teachers are untouchables! We have to be prepared mentally since we let our kids study in a SAP school to face a little more pressure. Take a step back and see whether you can reorg or re-prioritise some of his activities, maybe just need to improve on time-management. I heard from a P5 parent last year that homework was quite heavy for the upp Pri.
