You’re welcome! Also, the boys were told to bring a padlock with two keys for their lockers. The bookshop sells locks in two sizes. We bought the bigger lock for $3.80. Comes with three keys, one of which you’re to label and give to the FT for safekeeping. Cheers!

No problem! Unable to provide any further pointers today. Son didn’t allow me to accompany him right to school. Lol.

After last Fri briefing, my son was not too sure what to pack (in details) base on today’s timetable. So in the end brought many things and was told also bring along PE attire & sch bag is very heavy… Worst still today raining & caught in a very bad jam before reaching the school…

What a bad day for 1st day of sch for him

Dropped my DS at school this morning, arrived late about 7.45am. Was at start of Bishan Rd coming from Lornie and was caught in bumper to bumper traffic for about 35 mins over a stretch of 150m before turning into Bishan St 14.

Was surprised to see the Principal, teachers and staff of the school helping to marshal traffic flow within the school, including receiving them at the drop-off point. I guess they must have anticipated the massive jam around Bishan area (as there are so many schools there) and their presence really helped to ease the anxiety of the boys who arrived late, and many did due to the rain and bad traffic.

This episode alone showed the caring nature of the whole team there and a great manifestation of what would be in store for the boys in the years to come. What a way to start school!! Cheers.

Hope someone can help me with questions regarding CCA.

For certain CCAs, there are several time slots/ days given e.g Scouts , badminton , guitar, track and field. Does it mean that the child enrolled in any of these CCA has to attend all the different days? DS has to attend Legion of Mary on one of the weekdays and I am just afraid that he’ll end up with a CCA that is over demanding.

He is interested in badminton as that was his CCA in primary school. He is not in the school team though. Is it true that it is difficult to get into a sports CCA and most of them end up in uniformed gps?

                    Hi shaber,

                    Found the link http://www.sji.edu.sg/subpage.php?id=181

                    Not sure it's updated

NotEducatedMan: Yes, we too were lost so son brought all the books needed according to today’s timetable. I carried the heavy bag for him most of the way, then he emptied the stuff into his locker, which my son says is even bigger (depth-wise) than the ones at Universal Studio. Lockers are just outside the classroom, at least in my son’s case.

They had a very enjoyable getting-to-know-you session in class today. Son made some new friends. The SJI badge will be presented to them at the end of orientation, which I think is a brilliant idea, as it endows the boys with a real sense of school pride and identity.

Thanks, Shaber. I really hope parents of kids from different CCAs can share their experiences here. I don’t think a website will give you the full picture of the involvement required.

For example, the Scouts I spoke to said they meet on alternate Saturdays only, which the website does not indicate. And Drama Club meets twice a week from 3-6pm (not till 530pm as listed on website) according to the tr-in-charge whom I spoke to in Nov 2013.

So, dear parents, please fill us in on the actual extent of involvement for your child’s particular CCA. Thanks so much in advance and God bless you!
