hi, saw that NJC A level results only 82.1 (medium). seems like it is dropping evey year. at the rate it is dropping, it is gtg to be at the bottom of the mid tier JC very soon. am very worried as my gal is in JH1 this year. and saw many bad comments on reddit about the teachers and notes esp for Bio, PW and GP. am seriously hating my daughter's choice of school when she can get into RGS or NYGH with her psle results
Quite sad though.. Expecting NJC to be on par with VJC since both school has the same cut-off points. But once again it has proven not the case, while VJC continued to perform well, NJC has gone from bad to worse over the last 3 years.

With the medium of 82.1, so I am not surprise the mean has fallen out of the 80 range.

      What is CEP?

For our public service, CEP stands for Current Estimated Potential.
      https://www.psd.gov.sg/press-room/parliamentary-replies/written-reply-to-parliamentary-question-on-whether-the-ministry-intends-to-abolish-the-use-of-current-estimated-potential-cep-within-the-civil-service
      https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/changes-civil-services-currently-estimated-potential-system-kick-progressively-2021-chan

As for the selection of defence scholars, those chosen one are deemed to have high CEP.

eg. In 2020, total 95 out of close to 2000 applicants were selected.

I guess only the PSC interview panel can answer your question on why students from NYJC are not chosen for the top tier scholarships. Therein lies the paradox, good median UAS but no commiserate success rate for top scholarships.
Unlike lower ranking ACJC which has a much higher successful rate, it seems NYJC just could not produced enough high CEP students to compete for top scholarships.

A fair comparison since both are non-IPJC.

      Is it

      because

those Govt board prefer to give scholarship places to IP students,
      instead of to
      (O-level graduates, who joined A-level JCs) ?
That could be the disadvantage of being a non-IP students as NYJC is way too far behind HCI/RI when come to securing top government scholarships, and not even on par with eg. ACSI, EJC, VJC.

These are raw numbers. A more accurate view is to look at the number of awardees in relation to the size of the cohort.

Also bearing in mind that not all awardees are from the recently 2021 graduated cohort.

      https://www.mindef.gov.sg/web/portal/mindef/news-and-events/latest-releases/article-detail/2022/July/29jul22_fs
For this year, EJC has 7 awardees (cohort size 650?), NYJC has 1 awardee (cohort size ? )

How about this one (for example)

Could it be not many from NYJC applied for it compared to other JCs?
Top tier defence scholarships used to attract huge number of applicants from top A-level / IB performers, commonly from RI, HCI, ACSI, other IPJCs, as well as the popular non-IPJC ACJC.

So \"every year\" not many NYJC students applied for it compared to other JCs?

Once again, NYJC did poorly in securing top tier defence scholarships this year.

      Out of 93 in total

      HCI - 19
      RI - 18
      EJC - 7
      ACSI - 6
      RVHS - 6
      VJC - 4
      DHS - 4
      ACJC - 4
      SJI - 2
      ASJC - 2
SOTA, NUSH, NJC, TJC, ASJC, TMJC, SAJC, NYJC - 1 each

      The rest went to polytechnics

What will that imply, if NYJC produces less scholarship recipients?
Well, NYJC produces stellar A-level results, but very few of their students managed to obtain top scholarships eg. SAF/Mindef, as compared to other IPJCs and even the non-IPJC but popular ACJC with higher COP.

Is it because of 1) Sch brand name? 2) Non-IPJC? 3) Quality of student? 4) Connection? etc?

    • RE: * Nanyang JC (NYJC)

Actually ACSI and NYJC is almost on-par. But how come year-on-year many top scholarships eg. SAF/Mindef, were awarded to students from ACSI, and in fact students coming from NY was wayyyyy far from it?
