When we talk about top tier scholarships, of cos we are talking about future leaders lah. Indicative of certain cognitive bias.

Take in top O level students in Singapore yet fail to groom them to be top scholarships awardees.

Your DD from NYJC? If yes, as an insider, could she share the reason why she thinks NYJC has low number of PSC scholars ? And I believe she will have friends from RI/HCI to cross check what RI/HCI are doing right but not NYJC, in “grooming” PSC scholars?

I guess only the PSC interview panel can answer your question on why students from NYJC are not chosen for the top tier scholarships. Therein lies the paradox, good median UAS but no commiserate success rate for top scholarships.

Ideally, official info is the best but it is not always available. In a discussion forum like this, next best thing will be from contributor with insider info, or someone from the ground with direct experiences to share , and we can infer something out of these shared experiences, cross validate each other personal perspective to arrive at some personal conclusion.

I was thinking students from JC may hear about stories like their scholars have been mostly from
some clubs or something, and will share when asked. We may not know whether there info are conclusive, but it can be part of the puzzle pieces. Just like the “Bayesian inference” , where conclusion is adjusted as more info become available

It just validated again that academic results are not everything: NYJC with good median UAS but relative low PSC scholarship awarded.

Unlike lower ranking ACJC which has a much higher successful rate, it seems NYJC just could not produced enough high CEP students to compete for top scholarships.

A fair comparison since both are non-IPJC.

As for the selection of defence scholars, those chosen one are deemed to have high CEP.

eg. In 2020, total 95 out of close to 2000 applicants were selected.

Anyway, to all the Nanyang JC students here,

don't be so up tight about which is the 3rd or 4th or 5th JC, in Singapore. Why ?
Because
every few years, the situation may change, so on & so forth ....

Also, once u step into the working world, nobody is going to ask you, \"so, which JC, you come from ? \" Perhaps, during your very 1st job interview, interviewers may ask, especially if u are a fresh graduate, from university. But subsequently next time, each time whenever u change job, change company 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or change career, people won't ask u anymore.

They will only ask u one key question, \"From your current or from your previously resigned job, what relevant skill set, can u contribute to our organization ? \"

Or

\" Why should we hire u, out of so many job applicants, who have applied to our company ? We are in no lack of applicants ... \"

As u look back, all these not important anymore. Which (Secondary school or JC) u ever attended before, they merely become dim memories, in your past journey.

The reality is......which JCs or schools you graduated from may make a difference.

I am telling you this from my personal experience.

I once work in the civil service and the HR let slipped that priority consideration will be given to graduates from top JC.

This is despite the govt saying qualifications are not the only consideration.
