Thanks for the advice. Will set some rules for him and hope he won't abuse it.8228:
Are there any school rules on the usage of handphone? My ds asks for one again. Am I being cruel for not giving him one???
Many kids have handphone nowadays and they will feel left out without one. So if you decide to give one to him, set clear rules from the start, eg. No access to WhatsApp when doing his work, don't install any games in the hp (I don't give my DS my apple store account access), disable safari (however, as they start doing projects, may have to allow, see how it goes), disable installing apps function so he doesn't waste time looking at apple store for apps and maybe also don't install Facebook. Set clear rules otherwise hard to control once given. -

There is apps out there that can be use to control the usage. I am using this app called \"screen time\" (for android). It can set each day total usage time, what apps that can't be access during sch hrs, what apps that can't be access after bed time.. And you can set it differently on weekend.
Most likely I will get him an android phone too. Will find out more about the app. Thanks.
I don't mind my ds uses it as e-dictionary. For online research or watching video, PC at home is a preferred choice as I don't want his eye-sight to get much worse. I can make him to agree to some rules but it will be difficult to enforce them if he chooses not to follow.8228:
Hi
I gave my DS a hp since P4. He used it for google research for project work, youtube for video clips, dictionary to check up tough English words and PLECO to check up tough Chinese words. Of course, he uses it for whats app chat and occasional gaming (only if he asked me for permission). He can bring hp to HCI, but it must be on silent mode all the time, strictly no no usage in class but he can use it for communication in the campus. -

I feel that a parent should trust their child can exercise self-control and know if their own usage is affecting their studies, rather than using such an app. IMHO, using parental control apps show a total lack of confidence a parent has in their child.

Of course, if his phone gets confiscated in school, or he shows poor self control, then a parental control app might be a solution, but if this is your son's first phone, why not give him a chance? -

Thanks for your tip. For me, I am more concerned about his eye-sight than academic results. For study, he is 100% on his own now, no help from anyone or tuition. I am happy as long as his term report shows reasonable results compared to his past results. Things can still be done if anything goes wrong in his study. However, there is nothing I could do to reverse his eye-sight powers.

We live in Yew Tee. Finally, we find the shortest way to HCI. My DS takes bus from Woodland road, there are two buses (961 and 170) aheading to HCI. My DS take bus by himself today, it only takes 25 mins. It is much faster than bus 67. I would like to share this information for the HCI parents who live in Yew Tee.
Thanks for the info. What about the time for him to travel home after school (1:30 pm) & after CCA (around 5:30 pm)?
I'm staying at Choa Chu Kang. It is not a problem for him to get to school via 67 from interchange but my ds tells me that the waiting time for 67 after school is long & the bus is crowded. -
Yes, my son also told me the waiting time for bus 67 was very long. Sometime, he take bus 852 to bukit batok bus interchange and then take MRT back to home.

hi, does anyone know whether you need to be able to play an instrument to join Chinese Orchestra or String Orchestra?
Thanks. -
Hi! any year 1 parents from Ortus? Great if you could pm me and perhaps we could form a wats app group to share information. Thanks!
