Its just like wat Funz said
Just by turning my eating timetable the other way around helps. What used to be light breakfast, ok lunch and heavy dinners is now big breakfast, substantial lunch and light dinners. I restrict my carbos to only the mornings
I do eat stuff like chicken rice, lasi lemak, roti prata, mee goreng, laksa, pasta, etc...Just that I only eat it once or twice a week, not everyday or worst twice a day. Portion control is another thing, like 1 egg prata with 1 plain, previous portion was 2 eggs and 1 plain and dip the gravy instead of pouring all gravy in and let the prata soak it all up. No upsize, no additional egg/liver with my chicken/duck rice. No additional fried chicken wing with nasi lemak. I don't slurp up all the gravy of laksa like I used to. Mee goreng without the extra sunny side up.MLR,

I would eat veg before meat, more veg and meat instead of carbo. More energy needed to digest veg and meat than carbo. Of course the choice of meat is important, choose lean meat (chicken breast instead of thigh/wings) and complex carbo (high fibre bread/mixed grained rice/oats/bran/musli). Forgo the gravy that comes with meat/veg. If you must hv gravy, dip (NOT dunk) the meat into gravy instead of covering the entire plate with gravy.
Every morning b4 i do anything, I drink a glass (at least 300 ml) of warm water with a squeeze of lemon/lime juice. This helps to clean your system. I drink a glass of water slowly (about 5 to 8 mins) b4 each meal. I don't drink during meal, cos that would dilute your digestive juice and affect your digestive system. I eat fruits and veg like carrots, celery, cucumber, grapes, unsalted almonds, green apples, etc as snacks. When I hv cheese, I choose more flavourful semi-hard like emmental, sharp cheddar, feta.
These are just some of the things I do. I didn't do all at one go, just tackle one for each meal and think for 5 sec b4 ordering for a meal. Whenever I eat a dessert, I will walk an extra 15 to 30 mins during my 3x weekly workouts. So if I hv been indulgent for the week, I will walk an extra hour. I still enjoy my hawker fare, but just not in the indulgent way that I used to.
But remember that I am very overweight to begin with. The heavier you are the easier to lose. At my heaviest, I need a scary 1700 calories for my body to function at rest. I lost 4 kg in the 1st month. then it slowed to about 1 kg a month and I gained about 4 kg while away for my month long x'mas holidays so now back on routine to start my 1kg a month goal. But now got to increase my workouts (walking and stairs climbing) to lose more. My goal is to lose another 8 to 10 kg by end of this year. I learned that if you lose the weight slowly, it will stay off. -
MLR,
:ugogirl:
jia you! :rahrah:
sad thing is, i seldom eat laksa, nasi lemak, mee goreng, chix rice and will usually go for 2 plain prata. BUT I'm guilty of all the gravy pouring!!! I've a weakness for curry... can slurp up a bowl in under 5 mins!
i think i got to cut that out and follow your recommendation and also pack in some workout. I'm currently have 0 workout although i set a target to go for 10km runs this year! gosh! really got to work that butt now.
Thanks for sharing with us. I think its very helpful and useful. I hope you will lose your weight very soon, and i wanna take your advise and start to change and lose weight too! -

You'll be surprise how much you can lose just by changing your eating habits. Like you, I eat all the sinful foods only once in a blue moon. And I don't even take dessert, I drink my tea kosong and I eat very little rice, at most 1/3 of a rice bowl, I'm a small eater and I don't usually snack unless it is PMS period. When I exercise, I tone up but I don't lose weight or inches. It was only with changing my eating habits coupled with some exercise that I started seeing my waist again.MLR,

For a start, try to stay away from breads or any confectionary foods.
For breakfast, it is usually steamed tofu, hardboiled eggs, braised tofu and eggs, cereal with unsweetened soya milk, Chawan mushi, shoyu soba or at times, left over soup from dinner.
Lunch will be baked salmon, braised chicken, chicken dumpling, fish soup, yong tau hu (no noodles or beehoon), seafood salad, beef steak, kimchi soup, soba.
Dinner, stir fried vege, salads, clear vege soups (watercress, old cucumber, winter melon, minestrone). -
Funz, your diet immediately sounds so calming and workable. Tks for the ideas. (I'll read the thread backwards later as it sounds like there are even more tips.) This year, I might have to start BEFORE CNY, sigh.
Truth is, I'm not fat. Kinda skinny actually, tks to a high metabolic rate and a high energy type of personality. But I can overdo things, so my clothes have been uncomfortably tight the last few days. The green tea (which I've been drinking copiously) isn't helping cos it's making me even hungrier, so I end up eating more. But I should/will persevere. Gonna give up my Teh-C and mid-morning lunch-before-lunch from today

This sounds do-able Funz. But just wondering, do u feel hungry at first? Can we take light snacks like a museli bar in between? Wondering if that will defeat the purpose of healthy eating. You'll be surprise how much you can lose just by changing your eating habits. I've tried cutting down on my carbo but feel hungry afterwards. Also, if I'm too hungry, I have a terrible headache which will affect the rest of my day.
What do u do when u have hunger pangs? (sorry for all these qns...) Thanks  -

Hey, me too. I really need my carbs. And bread doesn't even quite do it. I need rice or noodles. I've tried eating fruits before - makes me jittery until I have ... rice or noodles.

I've switched to brown rice (mix of half white half brown). I don't snack much though, except for this time of the year. So maybe that's the key for me.
