I stay in Sengkang & my son just started P1. The sch bus pick-up time for him is 11am, drop off time abt 7.25-7.30pm. The sch starts at 12.20pm with silent reading programme. So far so good, comes morning lesson probably drive him to school & hopefully when school goes fully single session, the reporting time starts later.Hi All,
Anyone staying at Hougang area and taking school bus to Maha Bodhi? What time do you board the bus for afternoon session and what time does your child reach home after school?
My hubby is ex-student and my girls are registering for P1 this year June/July. But given the distance, I'm not sure if it's right to place my girls there. To be exact, I stayed Buangkok Crescent.
Thank you. -
bunnybluey:
You have to wait till 2016 for single session in MBS.

What time does the school dismiss for afternoon session? Is MBS your ex-sch that's why you choose this school instead of those nearby schools at Sengkang? -
lywong:
Last lesson ends at 6.20pm. Like you, it's my hubby's ex-sch. It is not just that my hb is old boy, I looked into several factors. My hse is within 1km of Nan Chiau, Rivervale & Compassvale & few more. NCPS is the most popular, based on 2010 & 2011 enrollment, P2B within 1km needs to ballot & I just don't think it's worth for me to join Hokkien huay kuan (I'm a Hokkien) or PV. Hence, I dropped NCPS & was glad that I did as I do have other reasons that I don't feel comfortable sharing publicly. RPS also vv.popular, so I dropped it off.
Hi bunnybluey,

I don't want to go through balloting stress, so I opted for safest choice. Although my son leaves early for school around 11am & reaches at abt 7.30pm, I don't have regrets. I like the higher chinese background as we speak to my son in Mandarin. Although I'm a free thinker, I'm more towards Buddism, so religion wise, it gels. I like that the PV is by existing parents, unlike most schools that get \"free labour\" through PV.
I spoke to another P1 mummy, her child only took return trip from school & reaches around 7pm & she stayed somewhere near rivervale plaza. Both our children take different sch bus, so apparently they have more than 1 bus for SK. Hence, I believe it's also depends which part of HG u stay & the route for that year.
My son's stop is the 2nd to board & last to alight, maybe that's why the earliest & latest. -
Hi bunnybluey,
Same here, I didnt want to go through balloting, especially coz mine are twins and if I failed in phase 2C, I will need 2 vacancies in phase 2C supp which is even more stressful for me to go through another round of balloting for 2 seats. But then the distance and 1 hour+ school bus journey for the kids also puts me wondering if this is the right choice to send to MBS.
I stayed Buangkok Crescent and infact Hougang Pri is just opposite my block but base on past year trends, it always got balloted for phase 2C. Same for Xinmin pri which is one of my shortlisted too.
So very headache now should I give up my Phase 2A which is further distance from home for a Phase 2C which is nearer (but not 100% guaranteed entry). -

Actually a viable option is to register under phase 2A in MBS. Monitor the situation in 2C before deciding whether you want to take the risk. It's better than having no confirmed places and then worry about it during 2C.Hi bunnybluey,

I don't think the journey is 1 hour plus expecially if it is a mini van. We've faily good experience with the bus drivers/ option in MBS. I recalled that we used to stay in changi when dd 1 was P1. Her coming back bus is another bus as the bus operator felt that it would be more suitable for her eg. reach home earlier. I know of another hougang parent who complained about pickup time that was too early for morning session In the end, they gave him another bus option that was better timing but the pickup location was not under the block eg. at the main road so that the uncle don't have to specially turn in. It's good to check with the bus uncles before deciding.
I am also ex-MBS. Observed some of my pals who stayed in SK/ hougang area didn't opt for MBS as they are now staunch christians. Actually some of my kids' classmates are also christians. Quite a no. of the teachers are also christians as well. Anyway, we are in multi religions Singapore. -

For me, I don't even bother to look at P2C for NCPS as sure have ballot for <1km, my colleague tried & was balloted out, & have to settle for 2nd choice sch. Hence, if it's that popular, I wld have looked at P2B instead, & if based on last yr registration, actually 2B <1km doesn't need to ballot. Then again, I hv other reasons & no regret. I can always shift nearer to school if need be, haha...Hi bunnybluey,
