Dear Kiasu Parents,


I am hoping to put up my boy at either Aitong or NYPS, but we are currently staying outside 2km of both schools.

I am very keen to enrol my boy in the schools because of its academic focus and their strength in Chess. My boy came in 2nd in a recent chess competition, and wondering if I could use this to give us an edge in registration for P1, even though we are outside 2km. Anyone here can help to give us some advice??

the registration process is transparent (at least it supposed to be) and this achievement in chess competition is not a criteria, thus it would not give your child any advantage in getting into any school of your choice.


however, you may use this plus other supporting achievement to try to get your desired school to accept a request of transfer (again subjected to available vacancy) after the registration is over.

Frankly, I doubt neither schools shortlisted by you would be interested in that chess achievement.

I think the sch would be more keen if the parents are PAP MPs, or directors in MNC....

Someone posted at "arrogant \ how lian" thread over at chit-chat how a certain parent boasted that she knew certain important people of a popular school and by just donating some XXX, her son sure get in. In the end, her son registration was not successful.

For P1 registration, the registration is transparent (supposed to be). So the choice schools you're considering will not look at the chess achievement.


Ai Tong and NYPS are 'hot' schools and balloting is required even staying within 1km. Phase 1 and 2 would be filled up almost 3/4, leaving little seats for Phase 2B and 2C.

The birth rate for children born in 2004 (due for P1 registration this year) is the lowest...even lower than 2003 (year when there was SARS). Last year, someone staying in Sembawang managed to register her son in Pei Hwa :shock:

ok, i wonder for those parents who went to the phase 2b or 2c balloting at nyps last year, did anyone remember seeing this rich foreign couple who have appeared in magazines, papers and on tv? i am unsure if i could name them but those in nyps or have read the news might know who i am talking about.

their daughter should be in p1 this year. obviously both are foreigners so phases 2A are out. mum is active in pv and kid from nyk. so must apply thru phase 2b or 2c right? anyone has any idea if they got in thru 2b or 2 c?

You are probably talking about Jim Rogers.

I believe Happy (their daughter) got in through 2B.
