Thks, mathsguru and will take note of your remarks. Let me try to solve the 2 questions posted by \"Daddy\" while waiting for your answers for the Q13 to Q18 in Pei Chun P6 Prelim 2009 paper 2.P/S:I would appreciate much if the questions are typed out, then I won't have to waste time typing them out.
1) Sheila is 39 years old. She is thrice as old as her son. find her age when her son will be half as old as she.
Age of Sheila's son is 39/3 = 13 years old.
Difference in their ages is 39-13 = 26. (Note that difference in age is constant)
1 unit = 26
2 units = 52
Age of Sheila will be 52 years old when her son is half as old as she.
2)For each box of cookies Danny sells, he earns $2. A bonus of $3 is given to him for every 10 boxes he sells. How many boxes of cookies must he sell to earn $200.
For every 10 boxes sold by Danny, he earns = (10x2)+3 = $ 23
Number of 'sets' = 200/23 = 8 remainder $16
Total boxes of cookies that he must sell to earn $ 200-> (8x10)+(16/2)
= 80+8
= 88

Finally done!
Anyway, hope you don't misunderstand what I'm trying to put across in my earlier posting. I just didn't want anyone to abuse my intention to help here. I'm doing this voluntarily on top of my tuition lessons, so I really dun wanna waste my time & effort doing up solutions for someone who just post questions for fun. :faint: I would feel very \"cheated\" and feel as if I'm just some silly problem-solving machine... :stupid:
Hehe...that said, for those with genuine queries, I'm very much willing & happy to share/help to the best of my ability. :hugs: Feels great when parents tell me how their children gain a better understanding after they used my solutions to explain to them. Feels like I'm contributing back to the society in my own little way...haha~~
Okie, enough of my ramblings...Here are the solutions to the Pei Chun questions:

mathguru, to say that the community appreciates the effort you put into answering the questions is an understatement. There are lots of parents out there who do not hire math tutors for a variety of reasons. And when they try to help their children on their own and get stuck, there is little they can do. So a big Thank You for the huge effort you have put in to answer each and every query posted in this thread. Your passion as an educator really come through.... BTW, whereabouts do you teach in Singapore? -
Hi Mathsguru,

Hi Mathsguru,
I have just PM you.
Will I be alerted when you reply to my PM and how do I retrieve the reply ? Sorry never explore the website and quite new here, so not very sure how to βmoveβ around.

I think it's fair to mathsguru if the questions posted can also come with the answer so that mathsguru can concentrate in showing the working on how to derive the answer. Rather than trying to spot the mistake in the question itself. Most of the challenging questions we encountered are from assessment books or past years exam papers which the answers are provided. If there is no answer, at least state the source of the question like from which school and the level. So that it won't make people feel that the question is just \"pluck from the air\". This should be the minimum respect one should show when asking for help.
mathsguru I think you should reserved the right to ignore any question which you feel was \"post for fun\".
Chief I think you should also \"punish\" those who do that in order to keep this thread alive and meaningful.ChiefKiasu:
