Does that mean the child has to talk anything abt the breakfast cereal...like what kind of cereal she/he thinks it is, who will eat it, where to get it, what other forms it comes in, how to eat it, etc, etc instead of having the teacher to prompt?mum03:

What you said about the oral is true, last year my DD's oral was based on breakfast cereal. The teacher will prompt you a question, and from there you have to build up your own stories. It's not a matter of elaborating, it's how confidently you talk and thinking out of the box. -

He/she got to know that roti prata actually has more calories than cereal, etc, so meaning that the child must have a wide range of knowledge in order to talk! :scared: -
Precisely, the new format is disadvantage to kids who can’t think out of the box. DD is very rigid and she needs prompting. Whereas my little piggy is very chatty and talks comfortably even with strangers. Anyway, there is no perfect format that suits everyone.

Basically what they are looking for in the new format is, how confidently the child is talking about the picture which was given to them. Even if they make mistakes on the content, it’s ok as long as they just talk.
If the child is stuck, the teacher will ask them a question, and they have to take it from there. -
My DD is getting too much homework in all the subjects (past two days). She could not find enough time just to finish the homework; I helped her a bit last night; otherwise she should have stayed beyond 11 pm. She usually goes to bed by 9 or 930 pm. Wrote an email to the teacher last night.

Is it the same in your DC’s school as well? If they are getting too much homework, then what are they doing in the school? At least My DD’s form teacher is considerate and listens to the parents. Hope she will tackle this issue well.

my dc school has never been an advocate of more homework. my dd who took psle last year also didn’t have so much work that couldn’t be completed by 9pm.
the classroom has a homework column on the whiteboard where the different subject teachers will fill in when he/she assigned homework. it’d include number of pages and date to pass up. so at any day, the class will not have too much or too little work. -

My DD as been having only English,Maths and Chinese home work this week. From what I understand frm my DD sch, in P5 they will have more homework to do as they will try to finish the syllabus and squeeze in some of p6 work.
In fact what they are trying to say is, \" We are preparing them for PSLE\".
I will be going for PTM this fri, and I want to clarify with the teachers. To be honest, I am not in favour of soo much homework. They don't even have time to play -

Dd2 doesn’t hv much homework yet. Based on dd1 experience, there’ll be even more homework in P6! She slept at or after 11pm almost everyday!
