Hi, my son scored a raw L1R5 score of 10, with 4 bonus points so with a net aggregate of 6, should he go to VJC arts stream or TJC science stream?

Are arts subjects really harder to score? But would VJC being a better school mean that he would do better for A Levels in VJC than TJC?

Also, does VJC offer hybrid combination for the arts stream? The website lists it under science stream so I'm wondering if it's possible...

      Thanks for your help! πŸ˜„

Yes, agree this year is tougher for entry to most of the JCs. If appeal for VJC, is there any chance?

How about TJC? Anyone know about this school?
        Thanks.

A big part of RJC students is made up of RI and RGS students, and many of them (likely to be more than HCI and NYGH altho I don't have the figures) are geppers. That would have 'guaranteed' its stellar results. Of course, I am sure the geppers wouldn't have chosen RI and RGS if they were not the 'gooder' schools. I would say that RI and RGS are more like GEP centres in which the programmes are run to develop geppers and the extremely bright children. In this sense, RJC is a 'gooder' school.

I guess if the two schools hv the best, they are expected to produce the best.
Sometimes I do empathised with the children from Raffles and Hwa Chong. Societal pressure on them to produce results can be extremely strong.
I read that there are Raffles kids who cried when they rec less than straight As. I really feel for them bcos sch n family pressure must hv bn really strong if they deemed 3As+1B as a poor showing.
My nb ds jus got B3 in O lvl MT n he was so depressed as his parents were rather upset. I was told insensitive ppl were makg nasty comments on how he can possibly get B3 coming from HC.
Contrastgly, my ds fren was praised for his B3 as he comes fm a sch not kn to prod gd chinese results.
          Same results but diff reactions.

          Tks ilovelaksa.
Many many many years ago, when my ri friend cried because he obtained all A1s & 1 A2, I thought he was :siao: . These few recent years I understand why.

A better question to ask might be which subjects your son prefers to study and what kind of career he is enthused by. It’s not the college that gets the grades but the student, and he is likely to study better if he is interested in the subjects.

He's actually interested in trying something new and taking the arts subjects, but he doesn't want to give up science because he's been taking it for so many years... As for career choice, the courses that he wants to take in uni have no prerequisites.

I would look at his stronger subjects, whether it is lean toward \"art\" or \"science\". It would be easier for him to score at A level for his stronger subjects. HTH.

Hmm i would not actually recommend that you try putting MJC as your first choice because i have a feeling that your chances of getting in is really very almost to zero since the COP difference is by 2. πŸ˜“ Moreover, putting MJC as a first choice may also jeopardize your chance of going to SRJC if the number of application to that JC is high this year.

Also, since going to SRJC instead of MJC would save you 30+ mins each journey, that would add up to 1+ hr per day and almost 6 hrs per week! :yikes: Given the heavy JC cirriculum i would advise that you go somewhere nearer and save the time for studies or relaxation. πŸ˜‰

If you are interested in an easy way to see all your eligible JCs or Poly courses do visit these two sites that i found.

                  http://www.cutoffpoint.sg/cut-off-points-for-JC
                  http://www.cutoffpoint.sg/polytechnic-courses-cut-off-point

Just key in your respective cut-off point for JC or Poly and the system would automatically give you all your available choices.

Good luck with your JAE! :rahrah:

I agreed with lynntan15. Since there is no prerequisites for the course he wanted in Uni. Than he should take the stream that he is strong in, so that he is able to score well in Alevel. Ideally, all A. πŸ™‚

In that case, he should go for the hybrid combinations with 1 or 2 humanities. I believe such combinations are still considered 'science'.
