@155dorcas hey i saw your artwork im an anime fan too and my style is similar to yours and i like your art
im not a parent too but a student studying in an arts elective program in one of the schools located near central.. i scored almost 250 for PSLE but im hoping to transfer to SOTA too.. i wanna know (im sec 2 this year) is it too late for me to transfer into SOTA as a visual arts student? when is it suitable to go for an audition or interview? and to those parents who have children studying there, how are the people there, what is the level of difficulty regarding schoolwork, is it very stressful, etc etc?nightcore:
Hey there, thanks! Well, um read the previous pages... I asked similar questions and i think most of them have been answeredi just checked the SOTA school website, those sec 1-3 are eligible for transfer!! >w< the talent auditions will be held during the march holidays, those who qualify will be transferred into the school during April! I'm quite worried, what is the audition like? is it infront of alot of people? Thankfully I think the results reviewed will be based on PSLE results, and not current school results *phew* (my current school results are really horrible but my PSLE is still fine) however not both of my parents are sure about letting me transfer .. TT^TT
I recently called up the school enquiring if there were spaces left and they told me they would update their website as soon as they tabulate the spaces left. The lady on the phone was saying that there is most likely to be a short-listing process which involves looking at our sec 1 scores as well as our art portfolio... so im really on the edge right now since I didnt do that well for PSLE (compared to u haha) and my sec 1 average was very low...well im not exactly sure where im placed at...considering im in express stream and my schools papers are different from other school. (we had extra sec 2 topics in sec 1).
I would suggest having a talk with them so all of you can make the final decision. Do bare in mind the long hours and kinda expensive school fees (depends on ya'know...
) also, SOTA has a six year program instead of our usual O'level track. So be sure to think about where you want to go after graduating
PS...i would love to see your art as well, my fellow anime lover! :boogie: -
hi everyone,
i’m an upper year student in sota; i’d welcome any queries and will answer them as best as i can!

Hi Beeby,
Thank you for your kind offer.
Can you share how a typical day be like at SOTA?
Do you know of anyone taking piano there?
Lastly, possible to share with us more about IB?
Thank you in advance.

Umm… Firstly, I’m not a parent, I’m in primary 6. I’m hoping to get into Sota through music, piano. Does anyone have any advice? I’m really worried that I won’t make it because my piano is only at Grade 4 and my sight reading is horrible. Also, I’ve never taken a theory exam. I want to try singing too but I don’t sing very well although I love it.
For those who are already in Sota. What’s it like there? How was Talent Academy? Was the audition hard?
Help!! -
Does anyone have specific info regarding a typical day for a student in drama or music (more specifically, violin)?
Thanks -
Also, is it true that it’s really difficult for students to get in Year 5?

I'm only in Y1 so this may not apply to you. School day starts at 7.45 am, 8.45am on Wednesdays and ends about 2.15-5.15. For theatre, there is about 7 hours of theatre classes a week. I do believe that the older years have to stay in school for a longer time though, and they may have more theatre classes in a week.
Yes, I've heard that Y5 is the hardest to get in. I'm not sure of the difficulty though.
Hope this helps.

it would be great if you could answer my question thanks! -
SOTA has an open symposium on 28 Feb. Do check out their website.

Hey stephanieteoh!
There is an open symposium on 28th Feb and auditions are in March or June. Results come around September or October (for me). Usually, people around 16 to 17 are not recommended to audition as there is too little time to get used to the subjects like TOK (Theory Of Knowledge) or the special art programs. Although I am not a dance student, dance students are often the ones that stay back the latest, sometimes till night time.
Yes, we do have the three sciences (Physics, Biology and Chemistry). We have to take one or two sciences for a few years and then one science during Year 5 and 6. If you want to take two sciences, you have to drop your art form. This I think isn’t a very popular choice for students, as they never want to drop the art form.
So, if you are 17 this year, you will have to apply this year. If you apply next year, you will not be eligible for the school, so I think you applied a little late, as students are usually taken in at 12 or 15. I am also not sure whether you can apply at 17.
Truth be told (not trying to demoralise you or anything) they almost never take in students at 16 or 17 who do not have extremely good knowledge or practice of the craft (because you cant keep up), but you may try to join in. Only 80+ Visual Arts, 20-30 Music and 30-60 Dance and Theatre students make it in every year. Competition is very hard.
Best of Luck!
