My DS just started Sec 1 at SST and he is soooo happy with his school. He can't stop talking about how great the school is....he is enjoying the different approach and strong emphasis on ICT that the school has. He said that his classmates PSLE score mainly around 247 to 255 but since they went through the DSA so it does not matter anyway.

Hi AZmama, my DS also in sec 1 this year. He's also happy with his school. His classmates also score around 240 and I hope that with his low score he will be able to catch up with them.

Don't worry javbaby. I am sure your son will cope just fine. Sometimes children peak at different level and time. The school seems to emphasize on holistic learning about getting the kids to be more responsible like not having bell for start/end recess so that they have to manage their own time.
I also find the students are generally very happy and motivated, even the upper sec. I believe that if we tackle the motivation part and get them to be passionate independent learner, they will be fine whatever exam you ask to take.
Plus you can also see the first cohort o-levels results recently which was pretty good. I do believe the first intake probably had lower PSLE ave coz the school was new then. So don't worry and enjoy the ride

Can any parent share what kind of teaching resources or materials does SST use? Does the school also use textbooks or school own notes? Hope some parents can share many thks!

When my son was in sec 1 and 2, he had chinese and maths textbooks. The rest of resources were found in the school google site or school notes. In sec 3 and 4, there are texbooks for most subjects in preparation for O level.

Can someone please advise what Sec 1 textbooks SST is using for English, Math and Science? I curious how they are different from that of say RI or NYGS.

Hi Everyone, I've been reading alot here and really grateful of parents who shared their kids dsa process with us. Ds is also aiming at SST but he needs to work very hard towards this goal. I can see his improvement in attitude too. His brain is all about SST now that when I talked to him about other school, his brighten up face will dim down immediately. And now I have to prep him and tell him positive things about other school, just in case.....

Last friday, I went to ds school for their PSLE curriculum talk and they actually got speaker from SST to introduce the school to us! They also said that alot of people has been spectaculating about the school pioneer 'O' level results and they are annoucing it for the first time here. hehehe... I hope I got the info correct as the speaker was talking so fast.

100% of the students qualified for Poly
98.?% of the students qualified for Poly and JC
56.4% of the students scored distinction

The funny thing about this speaker is, they even know \"kiasuparents.com\"!

2)    98% qualify for both Junior College and Polytechnic. 
3)    More than half of the students (55%) have obtained 5 or more distinctions.

So far my experience the teachers also very IT savvy...I guess to keep up with the students. Not surprise they know kiasuparents

I have checked with my DD who has attended the selection camp last year and she replied that the interview is done in a group after the activity. Questions asked are why do you choose SST, who contributed the most & the least during the activity, what do you think you can improve your design if your group design prototype fails.

But who knows that they may change the question since they know about Kiasuparents. What matter the most is that your child has passion in Science, read extensively for Science articles and participate actively as a team during Selection camp. Whether the final design prototype pass or fail is not so important. It's the process which the group brainstorm and work hand-in-hand together to produce the end-result, matters the most.

Thanks.[/quote]This year's sec 1s are using Shinglee's New Syllabus Maths, for Science the textbook is optional and no books for English. Anyway they don't use textbooks in lower sec except for MT. Most of the time notes and worksheets are given by the teachers.
