Does anyone know what’s considered a good mark for Chinese composition?

For kiddos, they know it is their own responsibility to remember their own homework, tests, spelling, etc. It is also their responsibility to show me whatever memos the school send back. I will not go through their bags for them. If they forget anything, they face the music themselves.

When my DD reach home from school, I ransack her bag, pick up all her home work, leave it on the table.

Look through her Journal, to check is there anything which I need to know.

I give her 1 hr to rest (watch TV), thereafter she sit down to finish all her homework…
This has been her daily routine since P1. I don’t have to remind her of her homework, as I always tell her, if you don’t do your work, it’s you who gets it from your teacher. I don’t study in your school, thus it’s not my responsibility.
The only thing I remind her to study is her spellings.
Other then that she is always left on her own.

However for my case, it turned out to be the opposite. I'm the one facing the music not ds cos whenever he didn't do his homework or forgot to bring his book, his teacher will call me up and complained to me that ds din do this and that....and I will have to apologize and say that I will check on him and will make sure he will hand in all his work by tomorrow....So, u see..it becomes my job! And I'm the one facing the teacher!!! :yikes:

Why do you apologize? I wouldn't! It has happened to me before (when my daughter was in P2), and even then I told the teacher that it was my daughter's job to keep track of her homework, not mine. I told the teacher to scold my daughter, and I reinforced it at home. I refuse to accept blame for what is NOT my job. I only give general reminder daily that they need to make sure to check their homework is done. And it only needs to happen a couple of times before the child realises that she will not be bailed out by me for forgetfulness. Same for the 'remember at bedtime' homework - I still make them go to sleep at the normal time, and they will have to face the teacher or find some time to scribble the work to hand in. Not my problem!

:xedfingers: Heng ah, so far kiddos are sufficiently afraid of the music they may get from the teachers to not to want to face it so they will make sure they complete their work.

Did you ask the teacher what he/she had done aside from complaining to you?

Which in fact, as many of u will know, they have to be reminded and reminded again and even dare to tell me there's no homework! :frustrated:

Teachers know kids, so they will understand. Of course, they will try to get you to help make their life easier. I just ask them for their help - I say that if they scold at school and I scold at home, the child will learn faster! But as long as you take the responsibility for remembering, your child will let you take it on, and also take the blame.

Maybe you should tell the teacher to give him the pressure.

But easy to say , not easy to do that

This year we got a welcome note from teacher. Telling us general stuff and asking us to check if child complets his hw and brings the right books. And this is P4. If a teacher expects constant home monitoring , when will the child learn to be independent ? I understand if a teacher wants to check on a child who has missed once too many homework - but the whole class? Sorry no baby sitting from me.

Since P1, DS knows homework and bag packing and learning spelling are his duties - he can ask for help if he needs help. He forgets to read spelling some weeks, he makes a couple of mistakes, once only a couple were right  , but at all times it is his responsibility. And he does forget his books now and then - and gets his tea party with teacher. And then the next few days he is extra vigilant 😉
