whats the usual timing for their work hours like what time wake up and sleep. got break in-between?

My maid sleeps at about 11pm and wakes up about 545am. Prepares breakfast for us and the kids. After we leave at 645am, she is on her own to do the housework until we are home for dinner. The kids do not come home for lunch everyday. Then in the night she usually does the ironing because she says it is cooler. Dinner is usually at 8pm. She is on call all the way up to 11pm if necessary but she is free to do anything. Actually even if she sleeps in the afternoon, we don't know. But it doesn't matter as long as the house is clean, laundry is done and dinner is cooked. She plans what to cook daily and what to do. There is certain SLA that I set. As long as she adheres to that, I leave it to her to manage. 😄

        Hi carol

Every household do things differently. If you hire an experience maid and you don’t make time to teach/tell her, or don’t insist, she will do her own way. No surprises there.

Most Ph maids will bully if they can bully. They are on the constant look out for expat family with own room, own tv and internet. They are more ang moh inclined than Asian. They will say yes to anything just need to get their foot in Singapore first.

If you are a 1st time employer, and you get these ex-sin more than 2 years, they will walk all over you. After 2 years they will walk all over you anyway. You maid is trying to get transfered, she don’t even bother if she will loose her job. Just my humble opinion. I will replace her.

Like the others mentioned, you are probably better off with an Indo maid. But don’t expect just because you pay $600, they will be automatic. If you don’t care enough to give her instructions, they won’t care enough either…they will just do it their way.

          Hi st2,

Actually I have stop work and stay at home and teach my present maid for 2 months. In this period her work and attitude is ok, also willing to follow my mum instruction. It's just when I start working, she change and not as good as the pervious 2 months. Can you advice me how to choose a experience indo maid that willing to follow elderly instruction.

          Hi carolsoh,

Getting an experience maid who will obey the elderly is like striking a Toto.... it's v difficult to find one. These maids are v smart & know who is paying their salary so will behave when the mam is at home but will behave v differently when the mam is away. If u want experienced maids, you hv to be vv firm & clear in yr instructions & not let her take control over the household. But since yr mum is around, I suggest u take a fresh young unmarried maid.... obedient & hardworking & no burden from her home.... But be prepared to train her for 6 mths. And after more than a year, be prepared all the hanky lanky will start as they become experience.

I hv used 4 inexperienced maids & 2 experienced maids so far. My exp w fresh maids hv been v good & they will finish 2-4 yrs contract w me. My exp maids gv me a lot attitude problem... one went missing & the current one is damn ya ya papaya!!! At 1st I was v nice to her coz she cooks v well but soon I realized I am losing control. She request buying branded toiletries (my expenses), unofficial off day (which means I don deduct her salary), rebond her hair & buy hp (her expense). She is always on her hp from 9am til nitetime & always on Facebook using my wifi. At 1st I tolerated her but now I am standing firm & showing her who's the boss!!! She's more well behaved now after getting many scoldings from me.

              8? I don't think so.
Someone I know was asked to go attend the course cos she changed maids a few times., but nowhere near 8 times.

Sorry to cut in but I have a q about my maid.

She has serious menstrual cramps and I took her to a GP. Doctor says her cramps not normal and hence need to go for a scan. I suspect it could be cyst or fibroid.

I know we have to pay for her medical bills like cough, flu or fever. But this is 女人病.

Are we also obliged to pay for her?

shes going to cost u a bomb if u continue with her, after scan, results then treatment, then ur trapped. Better to send her back before her next period. didnt she declare in her medial report about the extreme cramps? Since u know all this better not hold on. Tell her medical treatment cheaper in her country and shes suppose to declare any medical condition to the doctor but failed to do so,,, not honest so she can jolly well pay herself. u already did yr part taking her to the doctor and if u follow up then u may hv to go all the way.
Btw, if she faint and is warded, the insurance company do not pay for existing illness.

Hi moonee, her cramps started only after working for me for a year.

It’s not pre existing. My dH says pay for scan and if treatment is required then see how much. If not too costly pay for it. He thinks it’s difficult to get even 60% good maid .

                        Hi Peapot,

                        I agree with your DH.

My helper was with me barely 2 months before she complained of toothache. The dentist informed us that one tooth was so decayed that it had to be extracted, plus there were 5 other fillings to be done. Cost us $500. We had faith that she would reciprocate by being concientious in her work, as a form of gratitude. We did not utter a word of complain. So far, though there have been adjustment issues, she does not give us problems.

It is indeed very difficult to get a trustworthy and reliable helper.

So perhaps take things step by step. Send her for a scan first. Then work from there.

It a very personal decision at the end of the day cuz you know your helper best 😄

                        Take care.
