My personal opinion would be not to report to the school. Talk to your DS openly on why you feel that such content is not appropriate to be circulated in such a manner.
Teenagers will naturally be curious about all these and I believe taking a more open approach might be better.
With the Internet, they will be exposed contents much more explicit than such cartoons. Might as well take this opportunity to address the issue on pornography. -

Just tell him you looked at his phone without his permission and you are sorry about it. Apologise and sincerely admin it is against your better judgement.
I let me girls know I will check their phones and usually do so in front of them, no snooping around; and teach them how to handle some stuff, like unknown number / people whatsapping them, etc. .
