Based on my past years of forums experience, I feel it is rare to find people who will help the community as you did. I applaude you efforts to minimize \"advertising\" and keeping this thread for purpose of sharing and motivation. I am really impressed with your detailed solutions and little tips to help the children learn \"how to fish\" instead of giving them the \"fish\". I spent >1 hour reading the threads right from page 1 (I didn't previously :oops:). I am particularly motivated by how you cultivated your own skills and passion for Maths !
So thanks for motivating and helping this aunty here. Wish you blissful pak tor time and healthy work life balance !
:hugs: It warms my heart and puts a smile on my face when I read your encouraging words. Initially, I wasn't too sure if non-verbal explanation of maths problems could help much, but now I know I'm on the \"right\" track and will continue to share my 2 cents' worth.
My ultimate goal in teaching Maths is to inspire more students and help them experience the fun in learning Maths. Because I always believe that if you like something, you'll put your heart and soul into it and eventually, you'll shine in that field. :rahrah:
We all know that PSLE nowadays is getting more and more competitive, and pulling up the T-score is not that easy. Of all the subjects, I personally think that Maths is the best topic to score high marks in because there's nothing subjective about it (unlike languages). Working correct, answer correct, you get the marks.
That is why I find helping out in KSP meaningful because although I cannot teach every child out there, I can reach out to many parents through KSP and share with them non-algebra methods to solve primary school maths. Hopefully, they can impart this knowledge to their children and help them understand and apply these methods to many more problem sums. Or it could be as simple as \"empowering\" parents with the so-called \"primary school methods\" so that they can reinforce what their children have learnt in school.
Well...some may be skeptical of why I help here. I ain't no saint or some \"Wei3 Da4\" person. But all I can say is that with every \"Thank you\", \"I understand it now!\" or \"I can't wait to tell my child this solution!\" message that I receive, I can appreciate this Chinese proverb \"Zhu4 Ren2 Wei2 Kuai4 Le4 Zhi1 Ben3\" more and more. Helping others does make my day!

Need your help with the following questions :
1) An equal number of men and women attended a charity dinner. They were served either Chinese tea or wine. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women who were served Chinese tea was 2 : 3. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women who were served wine was 7 : 3. Find the ratio of the number of women who were served Chinese tea to the total number of guests at the charity dinner.
2) Natalie had a pouch of black and white beads. She then coloured 4/9 of her white beads black. As a result, the ratio of the number of white beads to black beads became 4 : 5. What was the inital ratio of black beads to white beads ?
3) In a sports class, for every 3 rugby players, there were 4 soccer players and for every 3 soccer players, there were 2 basketball players.
a) what is the ratio of the number of rugby players to the number of soccer players to the number of basketball players ? (Iβm able to solve this part, answer is 9 : 12 : 8.)
b) After 7 soccer players graduated, the number of soccer players left was 1/3 of the remaining population. Find the total number of basketball and rugby players in the class. (this part I lost liao β¦)

The trick is to locate the smallest unit common which can be referenced by all entities. In this case, it would be Aini after spending the $55. Let that be A. Since Bala has now 4 times more than Aini, Bala has 4A.Hi Mathsguru,

Both Aini and Bala now has A + 4A = 5A amount of money. We also know that the amount of money left now is $2500 - $55 = $2445.
Therefore 5A = $2455 => A = $489 which is also what Aini has left. -

Anyone can help me to solve this question:
City P and City Q are 2364km apart. City R is 280km nearer to City Q than City P. A Bus left City R for City P and stopped to refill petrol halfway in his journey. How far was the bus from City Q?
The Answer is 1703kmβ¦

Assume distance between P and R be N km and provided the 3 cities are in a straight line.City P and City Q are 2364km apart. City R is 280km nearer to City Q than City P. A Bus left City R for City P and stopped to refill petrol halfway in his journey. How far was the bus from City Q?
Distance between City R and City Q is (N-280) km
N+N-280=2364
2N = 2644
N = 1322 km
Distance between halfway of City P and City R and City Q is N/2+N-280.
So, (1322/2)+1322-280
=661+1322-280
=1703 km
The bus was 1703 km from City Q.
