Anyone has dd in p5 last year? Would appreciate it if you could share what the Malacca trip was like. Did they stay in hotel, hostel or dormitory? If hotel, was it two to a room or three? Can choose roommate or teacher assign? Roommate from same class or from different class?

            Thanks in advance!
If I am not wrong , its a fairly new hotel 2 to 3 years old.
Hatten hotel. Check it up on the website.
(that's provided its the same hotel)

I realised the P1 girls do not have much homework and there is nothing copied onto their handbook as well. They do not have a class blog is its quite difficult to know what they are doing in class. Is that the same for other P1 classes??

                Hi bluemoon

I agree in the HW. So far the hw my gal brought home are to do coloring and 2 pages of worksheet. I guess it’s good in the sense everything is done in school. At least at home they can take a break or revise other stuffs or you may assign ur gal some assessment books to do.

I would gladly support having a blog or even a fb closed group for the class. I had suggested but no outcome fr the school. Other schs had fb page and posted pix of the gals first second few days at sch. It certainly warms the heart for those parents to spot their gals esp when the parents didn’t get to stay at school.

Forgot abt the handbook. My gal handbook has stuffs copied in it. Though not on a daily basis. Teacher also email us parents for important reminders too.

At least you still get email from the teacher. I have not received any updates or reminder from teacher tru email and it takes days before she can reply my email. Haiz...

When remind her to ask the class to write down the date on the maths text on topic or pages being taught so that parents can revise with the kids, she told me she may forget.I told her to try her best.

Request her to instruct the girls to write down the answer on the questions during lesson so that the kids can revise independently, yet she said the load is too much for the kids. OMG! I guess I will have to do the questions on the text with my girl myself.

It's so different from my son's school. The dates are being written on topic being covered and all the questions are being done in class and the teachers will email parents periodically to keep us informed on topics being taught.

really don't know what to do.....

Hi bluemoon, ryes and sglady, my understanding is that p1s are usually not given a lot of homework. This is because it’s their first time experiencing actual school, so this is like their "honeymoon" year.

As for class blogs and being updated, this depends a lot on individual teachers. For example, my dd’s p1 teacher set up a class blog, but all her subsequent teachers (she’s in p5 now) never did. Replying to emails also differs – some teachers reply fast, others take a while.

                      Hi jacsplace…

Yes. I agree on the honeymoon esp now is just term 1 and the girls are still learning to cope with the extra long hours back to back classes.

I have couple of frens who are teachers. They will reply emails when they have breaks or when it’s after sch. Not forgetting they also must take charge of the cca assigned to them, preparing the class work and plan, clearing admin work and many others that we as parents cannot see.

So it still boils down to individual teachers’ way of handling.

Maybe sg lady and blue moon, the upcoming 7 feb parent teacher meeting, maybe can voice out?

I agree the teachers may be too busy to reply all the emails which probably circle around the same topics. Hence a class blog would be useful so we know what is taught, reminder of spelling or test dates.

My son had a class blog and the teacher would briefly record what was taught on (almost) daily basis and remind parents to reinforce at home. I thought that was very useful.
