      YLH88:
      1) An equal number of men and women attended a charity dinner. They were served either Chinese tea or wine. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women who were served Chinese tea was 2 : 3. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women who were served wine was 7 : 3. Find the ratio of the number of women who were served Chinese tea to the total number of guests at the charity dinner.

      2) Natalie had a pouch of black and white beads. She then coloured 4/9 of her white beads black. As a result, the ratio of the number of white beads to black beads became 4 : 5. What was the inital ratio of black beads to white beads ?

      3) In a sports class, for every 3 rugby players, there were 4 soccer players and for every 3 soccer players, there were 2 basketball players.
      a) what is the ratio of the number of rugby players to the number of soccer players to the number of basketball players ? (I'm able to solve this part, answer is 9 : 12 : 8.)
      b) After 7 soccer players graduated, the number of soccer players left was 1/3 of the remaining population. Find the total number of basketball and rugby players in the class. (this part I lost liao ..)

        Hi Mathsguru,

Need your help with 1 P4 maths question.

Anin and Bala had $2500 at first. After Anin spent $55, Bala had 4times as much money as Aini. How much money had Aini left?
        Hi Rain29,

Here's my solution. Hope you can get a clearer picture with the help of the diagram. 🙂

          Hi MATHSGURU,

Anyone can help me to solve this question:

City P and City Q are 2364km apart. City R is 280km nearer to City Q than City P. A Bus left City R for City P and stopped to refill petrol halfway in his journey. How far was the bus from City Q?

          The Answer is 1703km....
Can anyone check whether it is correct?

          Thanks
          Hi Imacsg,

Personally, I think there's a little typo in the question if the answer is 1703km. It should be \"City R is 280km nearer to City Q than to City P.\" Otherwise, it would seem that the distance between City R and City Q is 280 km shorter than the distance between City P and City Q. Perhaps, that's why you were confused too? 🙂

Anyway, here's the solution to obtain 1703 km:

Thanks Vanilla Cake & mathsguru for the quest 1 ans: 52 years.

                  But I still not understand.
For this statement \"Find her age when her son will be half as old as she. \"
half as old as she = 39/2 = 19.5 years.

I do not understand Sheila's son is 26 years.

                  Thanks
                  Daddy.

                    Hi Daddy,

For this problem, Vanilla Cake’s and mathsguru’s solutions are very clear already. However, I will put the steps in simple form so that you are able to follow them.

Sheila is 39 years old. She is thrice as old as her son. Find her age when her son will be half as old as she.

                    Step 1
When Sheila is 39 years old, her son is 1/3 her age i.e. 1/3 x 39 = 13 years old.
                    # The ratio between Sheila’s age and her son’s age = 3:1

                    Step 2
You need to understand that the difference in age between Sheila and her son is ALWAYS the SAME.
                    Difference in age = 39 – 13 = 26 yrs

                    Step 3
Question now requires you to find Sheila’s age when her son is half her age. #Sheila’s age is NOT 39 yrs old when her son is half her age. We need to find out Sheila’s age when her son is half her age.
                    Here the ratio between Sheila’s age : Son’s age = 2 units :1 unit = 2:1

                    Step 4
                    Difference in age = 2 units – 1 unit = 1 unit = 26 yrs
                    Sheila’s age = 2 units = 2x26 = 52 yrs old
                    Son’s age = 1 unit = 26 yrs old.

                      Dear MathsGuru

Please guide me to solve this problem sum:

A tank and a pail have a total of 8346ml of water. If 314ml of water was poured from the pail to the tank, the amount of water in the tank is 12 times more than the pail. What is the volume of the pail at first?

                      Thank you.

                        Help!!!

Anna and May shared a sum of money.
Anna spent $30 each day while
May spent $15 each day. After May had
spent all her money, Anna still had $230 left.
If Anna spent $15 each day and May spent $30 each day,
Anna still had $500 after May had spent all her money.
How much did each girl have at first?
