Have you found the answer? Have you browse through your child's Math worksheets?

Heuristic in Math Problem Solving skills: Looking for Patterns, Systematic Listing, Guess and Check, Make a Table, Logical Reasoning, Working Backwards, Model Drawing etc.
Not sure, but I think for P1, only \"Looking for Patterns\"... please check with your child's Math teacher. 😄

there is a Heuristics Maths question like this from Andrew Er.

            Qtn:
"There are a total of 9 tigers and ducks.
            They have 24 legs altogether.
            How many tigers are there?"

My daughter got the correct answer but i couldnt tell how she got the answers with logical working details. She uses all her own mental and guessing which i found out is one of the 2 methods that will be taught.

            1. Guess & check method where they draw up a table to eliminate the possibilities
            2. Assumption method. You assume all the animals has the same number of legs first. I.e. assume all the animals are ducks first.
            a. Say all ducks total number of legs. 9 x 2 legs = 18 legs.
            b. Extra number of legs. 24 legs - 18 legs = 6 extra legs
            c. difference between the no of legs of a tiger and a duck. 4-2 = 2
            d. 6 divide by 2 = 3.
            therefore, there are 3 tigers.

I still dont understand the actual method breakdown but this is one good example of Heuristic Maths.

Surprisely, it kinda interest me a little… its so interesting…going back to school all over again…
