      Hi bb_mom

Can understand your concerns - my students tend to write out of point sometimes as well. The biggest challenge is to incorporate this general theme into the planning process so ds doesn’t stray from the topic.

      All the best, bb_mom!

        Hi Musicstar

In the new format, the choice is between writing a story (narrative) or an essay (expository).

Right now, none of the schools I know have taught essay or expository writing skills yet. Everyone is just writing stories, which may have led to your confusion about whether there are any alternative options for students.

        The writer,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I revisit your blog and realise that the narrative or an expository writing is from the 3 pictures. Am I right?
Presently, the old format is a picture (guided composition) to write the story or continuous writing starting with a paragraph.
Recently, I have attended the school talk and was told that the guided composition remain but the continuous writing change to 3 pictures writing. I am confused.

        Hi Musicstar

As am I. If the guided compositioned remained, there wouldn't be any point in testing using the 3 pictures format with a requirement to tie it back to the general theme.

I think what the school might have meant was that the 3-picture continuous writing is very similar to the guided composition, but without having been there nor having seen the slides, I wouldn't dare to presume.

My school informed us that 3 pictures will be given and we can choose one or more pictures to write. ANother one is situational writing.

My DS is also in P5. I got this P5 English Based on 2015 PSLE Format from Popular. It actually contains specimen papers, including oral. All based on new format. Very popular - had to reserve and go down to Bras Basah today to pick up. The Popular nearest to my place had the book but all reserved. Published by 3 Gifted Minds LLP.
