      1) Both Tim and Ron have some money. If Tim spends $60 each day and Ron spends $30 each day, Tim would have $300 left by the time Ron spends all his money. If Tim spends $30 each day and Ron spends $60 each day, Tim would have $1200 left by the time Ron spends all his money. How much money does each boy have ?
      These 2 questions are similar to the one answered earlier. Perhaps you can figure out the answers by studying mathsguru's earlier post?

        Thank you! I am able to follow the steps except the last part. Why do we use 1 unit of Leo in the 2nd scenario and not the 2 units of Leo in the 1st scenario ? ie in the final step, we take 1800 + 400 = 2200 and not (2 x 400) + 600 = 1400 ? :?

            Thank you.[/quote]You could jolly well have. Just that in scenario 1, Leo spent 4 units rather than 2. So it should be (4 x 400) + 600 = $2200. Why it is chosen to use scenario 2 is because it is a simple addition of (1800 + 400), rather than having to multiply in scenario 1, and thus introducing additional chance of making mistakes.

              Each day Julie spents ($10 - $6 = $4) more than Kylie.

              When Julie has $18 left; Kylie has $54 left (3 x $18 ). At this point of time, Kylie has $36 more than Julie.

              No. of days taken = $36/$4 = 9 days. (If Kylie spends $4 less than Julie every day; they will take 9 days for Kylie to have $36 more than Julie)

              Amount of money they had at first
              Kylie : $ 54 + 9x $6 = $108
              Julie : $ 18 + 9 x $10 = $108

                    So, Peter : Ron : James = 6 : 8 : 13 (James portion is 21 – 8 = 13)
