And I heard H3 is useless and why are people still studying it?
I don't think its totally useless?
It may serve as buffing up your applications for those applying to overseas unis... -

hello, would just like to check something - if I have passed higher chinese in o levels and choose to be exempted from H1CL in A levels, what would it say on my A level cert? would it show my o level higher chinese grade or would it just say that I am exempted?
I think it just won't show up in your A level cert. -

Econs is a very useful subject though, especially if your child wants to do any finance, business etc courses. It's also a good course just for general knowledge. But the main thing is to let your child decide based on interest. Studying needs motivation, and it will be easier if she is interested in the subject.
Agreed, econs is interesting just for the general knowledgestarlight1968sg:
Econs is more 'maths-science' and less 'humanities' than Geog or Hist, so science students usually think it will be easier to understand and study. Most science students also think that Geog/Hist are purely memorising subjects (I disagree, but that's another topic), and prefer not to try them. Another constraint is how each JC timetables classes - not all combinations may be possible.
My thinking is since the student will be doing Geo or Hist in sec 3 & 4, perhaps it is better to continue further (to A levels) rather than to take up Economics from ground zero?

During the CL1/CL2 [aka HCL/CL] days it'll just show the respective score obtained at the respective sitting. i.e. CL1 score in 'O' level cert, and CL2 score in 'A' level cert. MOE/your school knows if you've achieved the required min score. There are people who scored A2 for CL1 at 'O' level, but just kept taking CL2 at 'A' level in order to achieve perfect A1 score.BitterSweet:

May I ask if the contrasting subject can be taken as a H1 level? Thanks.

Can.
Some schools seem to require that subject to be taken at H2 level. -
Oh is it? Could it be the school’s directive rather than the MOE’s directive then?

This is what I am trying to find out too.
Anyway, I have sent an email to the relevant authorities for further clarifications.
I just want to hear from parents here with such experience.
Thanks, jtoh. -

Probably. As far as I know, MOE does not require that the contrasting subject be taken at H2.
