yes, I find it rude too.

I discourage my kids from using such words, and try to avoid making a habit of it. there are many other \"cool\" things, rudeness is lame.

Normal or not normal lingo, words like 'idiot', 'retarded', 'stupid' used on people are unacceptable - at least for our family values

Agree. It is downright rude and unacceptable. Even if their friends were to speak like that, it does not mean our kids have to pick it up just to be in the \"in\" group. Worst thing is for it to become a habit and you see your kids peppering their conversation with all these offensive lingos.
This leads to me think of the ah bengs/would be ah bengs who start their sentences with the hokkien swear word. To them, it's normal. But would we accept these if our kids would to use such too (though not ah bengs)? Maybe I think too much. I rather be old fashioned than be cool in this aspect.

I asked my son the same question. Apparently no.

Idiot, retard, lame & stupid are all words in Oxford dictionary cannot compare with Hokkien vulgar words lah. Even though those words are not good to be used on person, they are using it as a joke lah.

I have asked my girl & she said only a small percentage of usually boys used it.

Probably it will come by the time the 3rd batch of IP students came in. šŸ˜„

Anyway, my boy says that most of the students in NJC quite \"well-behaved\" compared to those in his previous class where he says at least half the class(or more) very rowdy.
