Hi all

Can check..how do you plan for revision from now (1 week holiday) to actual day?
when school starts, how to revise when there is homework everyday?

What is your typical timetable? Thanks

Good question ...my first time too.

DS1 was quite stressed over the weekend...despite the hols. Kept talking about all the homework. I also gave him some work to be done this week. He was overwhelmed so I sat down with him and drew out a timetable just for this one week - and he felt better when he saw he could actually fit the work.

I personally wish DS could have more time to enjoy but at least he has pockets of time here and there. It's way too early to get worn out.

plan weekly time-table down to the hour…give pockets of time to stretch and breathe…too early to go intensive…burnt out now as good as not sitting for psle. bring kids to the malls this week to let them see something other than 4 walls and books. remember the BIG PICTURE…so any CA or SA is just a revision…do well then it is a bonus, marginal pass it’s ok…some schools set super tough papers for the purpose of ‘wake up’.

I personally wish DS could have more time to enjoy but at least he has pockets of time here and there. It's way to early to get worn out.

Depending on your son's preference, another way would be to compress the work into a few days, and take a couple of days to rest and play completely. My daughters generally prefer that. We try to get all work done early in the week, and have a complete break for a few days.

Also be measured about how much you expect him to do as it's still early days. I also will also tell my kids which school homework is less important and either ask them to do it faster (and with less effort) or help them get it over faster. (Some teachers are unreasonable, and I don't see why my kids have to suffer unnecessarily).

I have a timetable for DS but he is not adhereing to it. He has v little homework this hoilday. We gave him some practices to do during the day when we are at work. Yday, when we were back aft 8pm, he had only just started the practices. Asked him why din he start earlier and wat he did during the day…He jus said he lazed around, dun feel like doing.

For the past few mths, we have been explaining to him the importance of revision and discuss w him on the choices of schools etc etc…He is juz not motiviated…
Has this "cant be bothered" attitude. He want to make his own decision like not to do certain piece of work or not to learn spelling etc. At times, we let him decide but it turned his decision was a wrong one. Thot he will "wake" up aft that, but no loh…

Can anyone share how to "knock" some sense into him…

I am no expert but I realised it helped my DS to be more specific with the timetable - e.g. right down to the chapter to read and the page of the assessment book to do. It may also help to check mid-day how he is progressing along? Also to check if there are any distractions (like hand-held devices, hp, computer games) that might be more attractive than assessment books
As for the motivation part - yes, it is the hardest issue. We did ask DS to picture himself in his dream school vs other schools. It is only this year that he seems to be more settled.

I will reward ds with an hr of game time if he can compete all his tasks for the day.

Seem to work quite well.

Before he gets rewarded with an hour of game time, how much game time does he get each day?

He plays whenever I’m not ‘watching’ over him. I tried to confiscate his handphone, iPad etc… But he gets v unhappy and angry

Oh yes! My DS feels that he already working and yet take games away. How to de-stress. So sometimes, get into fighting match.
