Thanks for the alert and advice.
The public safety not so good even in singapore nowsaday.
Last month there is a “crime alert” notice for outrage of modesty at where i stay. The incident happened at 2 plus pm , not at nite.
And one more same such notice near the yew tee mrt as well.
And there was another robbery “crime alert” notice near my plc and it happen in Jan at 3 plus am.
I think as far as possible , better get a male companion from the family to accompany the female family members home, if they come home late walking from the mrt. -
Unfortunately it’s not legal to use pepper spray in Singapore.
Self defence lessons would probably be useful. Are you going to go your entire life escorted by someone at all times? -
Oh, another way to defend yourself.
Clutch a key in your fist with the metal end sticking out, as if you are getting ready to unlock your gate. As soon as someone attacks you, retaliate by using your key as a penknife. It will stunt him for a while and give you time to kick his butt and run.
Of course, it’s better to get a male to accompany you but sometimes it’s just impossible so best to learn some basic self defence. Practise these simple moves so that you are prepared when the time comes. -

You are right that you can't be forever b escorted by someone. My sis-in-law before married, used to b escorted by my father-in-law or my husband when she return late from work late at nite. Her job need her to return late every nite. They did not want to leave it to chance.Unfortunately it's not legal to use pepper spray in Singapore.

It can b an interim solution for someone who have not or cannot learn self defence. -
Carry a can of hairspray with you to serve as a deterrent spray! Pepper sprays are forbidden in Singapore if I’m not wrong, but you can do with hairspray or make your own concoction.

While learning self defence skill is all well and good. Prevention is still better.
If you read the article about the woman who was attacked, it was sudden and the guy bashed her head trying to knock her out. In this kind of scenario, any chance to reach for keys to poke, sprays to blind? Even if you know karate, taekwondo, MMA, etc, will you even have a chance to put those skills to use before the guy pin you down?
The loud alarm is a good deterrent but if you put it in your handbag, it is not going to be of any use. So wear it like a pendant or around your wrist or have it in your hands if you are walking in deserted areas. Also remember to periodically check that it is in working order.
So to my younger sis last time, I say, stay in well lit and populated areas. Try not to come home alone too late at night. If it is going to be late, get a friend to send you home or call me or Dad to pick her up. Avoid putting herself in situation where she will be at risk. -
The cyclist has been caught by the police as reported in the newspaper.

Good. I hope he was the only culprit as there was more than one case? -
