Compulsory Overseas Trip
-
This compulsory overseas trip is really a nightmare to meβ¦hope that day can be delayed as far as possible.

You can try to see if you can be a parent volunteer. If you are willing to pay your own fares, they may accept.

Thanks. will check but I think some trips quite tough.
I also heard at P5 compulsory to go for National Day parade to be spectators....   Call for patriotism at the expense of their safety, I cannot fathom. -
Aiyah, try to look at it like this: Many people ballot every year still cannot get any National Day tickets, now your son has free ticket to watch the preview, don't complain lah

Aiyah...you pay me money I also don't want to go to ND parade. One man's meat is another's poison. I wish the school can do more constructive things than trying to instill such patriotism. I believe patriotism will come with the right experience, not from ND parades la.. Anyone want that ticket, I happily surrender if we have a choice indeed!!!
You know my child enjoy watching the parade over the TV, can zoom in and get closeup views, why go to live shows when physically not able to deal with such big crowds at that age? If stampede happens due to some mad people, who is going to be responsible? -

Actually you don't have to worry about safety issue at the NDP for P5 students. They are very well organised and well looked after by the 'ah pink gers'. Everything is well co-ordinated from picking them up from school to dismissal at the stadium/floating platform.ooptimizer:

Some schools have become very well organised over the years, to the extent that they even have a notice board outside the general office, informing the anxious parents what time the students left the stadium/floating platform, traffic conditions along the way etc. My boys' former primary school even had teachers who were with the students reporting via phone calls and smses to update the General Office and they in turn would update the notice board for us parents. For me, I am all thumbs up for the way they organised the NDP for the P5s. Very well organised, so really nothing to worry on our part as parents.
Nothing about patriotism here, but it is really a good experience for the kids, trust me, they would enjoy the show.
Hope that help to reduce some anxieties on your part.
Oh yes, another tip, let your child bring along a handphone, that really helps too. -

If they make such efforts, it sounds pretty good.
I hope given a few more years, I can grow more comfortable with such activities at primary level. It seems that as a human race we are really very keen to let the young grow up very quickly....maybe to match our fast pace life created by ourselves. -

No problem, just sharing a personal experience, after all, I have two boys who have gone through the P5 NDP experience.

Do you have friends from your child's school who have been to the NDP? If so, maybe can ask them how the school manage this particular event every year?
Oops, looks like we :offtopic: liao! Back to topic ..... compulsory overseas trip ..... -
