How long has ur kid being in ICR-P?
Is he new to the class and teacher? Last time, my son quite scared of his teacher bcos the teacher is v strict and fierce.
Has he any prob completing his home and need some guidance?
Has he any prob following what the teacher is teaching him. Mayb you can talk to his teacher abt to find out more what happen in class.
You need to know the cause before you can find the solution to this.

>> yes, he is quite relunctant to do his prescribed homework and can be quite stubborn when i try to correct him..do you experience this issue? how to coach a stubborn boy??

for ICR-P, certain part of the lesson is allocated for 1to1 coaching. That is the structure of the lesson, mayb u need to highlight tis to the teacher and seek for her advice. Can he read story book while waiting for the teacher?

my kids are ok w their homework. If there is prob w the child following the lesson, the teacher should have highlight this to u. U can also talk to the teacher if he has prob w his hw. Not sure is ur son is not willing to do the hw bcos it is difficult or for some other reason? I remember ICR-P hw is not a lot and it is quite easy to complete

May i know which is better - Harbourfront or kovan I Can Read? Any bad experience with these 2 branches?

In yr 2011, my kid was also 4 yrs old when she attended the ICR-Preliminary ,the programme structure don't have comprehension at that time. They only have some hw on phonics and spelling test. All easy to accomplish. Actually my ds attended ICR-P when he was 3 yrs old, he was the youngest in the class. My dd attended ICR-P when she was 4 yrs old. I saw at the centre that most of the kids attended ICR-P were mostly around my dd's age at that time.

Not ICR-Preliminary level, it's I Can Read 1 year structured level.[/quote]Mt son was in ICR when he was 4 yrs old. I have to guide him on the comprehension. He might get the wrong answer if i don't. But we had changed to another english enrichment centre when he was 6 yrs old.

ICR level has a total of 6 books, taught over 4 (structured) terms. A supplementary reader will be introduced when the teacher start Book 6. Book 6 completes the reading component of the I Can Read System and introduces the student to basic grammar, creative writing and advanced spelling. Weekly homework comprises of 6-12 spelling words, 1 Compre from one of the ICR level Book 1-5 and 1 Compre from the supplementary reader. Kid is expected to write in complete sentences with proper punctuation and spelling. Answers to these Compre questions may be factual (based on understanding directly from the text), or may require some inference skills.

From what I gather, Book 6 is like a basic intro to Primary 1 English, where the kids are expected to hv a certain level of competency in reading and writing, and having the ability to write (somewhat) independently.

I believe every child progresses differently and receives different amount of guidance from home. The parent will hv a better idea whether the N2 can cope with ICR level or not.

At a younger age, some kids appears to be able to 'read', but they may not hv the 'comprehension'. Just my 2cents.
