Would like to know how is the culture of the school? Is it very competitive. Also I was told the mean score of the psle is not that high if we exclude the gep classes. Is that true? Most importantly are there lots of homework and how're the teachers there in general? Also what would you all identify as rgps girls' profile? Eg outspoken, aggressive, caring...
Lesser homework, even in P6, Lesser exam, Lesser school enrichment class, lesser stress if parents are not so kiasu.
Girls are happy, independent, good aural expression...calm, not aggressive...more. -

Not as competitive as what you hear from people.
Not as much homework as what people think, in fact very little in my opinion
So far DD's teachers are all very responsive and forthcoming.
All in all, not the stressful, pressure cooker environment that some people may think of schools like RGPS. None of the teachers told us DD needs tuition even when her results slipped.
So far those whom I encounter are mostly well adjusted individuals. You'll get some drama queens, they are girls after all.
As for mean score, I don't really know, never really keep track. -
Thanks for yr reply. How abt the CCAs? What are their core CCA? Choir? Also how is the chinese standard in the school? We have heard of children from such ‘angmo’ schools hate Chinese…there’s lots of diff comments abt d school but I guess the current parents may have better views compared to hearsay. Thx

Although I did not sense school put too much efforts on Chinese, the average score of PSLE chinese last year is 90+ (Mainstream).
There are a wide range for girls to select their dreaming CCA activities. All girls have the same chances to enjoy the activities. -

Average score of PSLE Chinese is 90+? Are you sure? I don't think MOE reveals average scores of students in individual subjects. Perhaps you meant that 90+% of RGPS students scored A/A* in PSLE Chinese? Those are stats that MOE and the school will release.

Dear Eunice,
A)
How abt the CCAs? What are their core CCA? Choir?
All (P1 to P6) CCA info, is available on school website :-
http://www.rafflesgirlspri.moe.edu.sg/r ... nformation
Our school does not have any core CCA.
Our girls enrol in CCA -
according to what they are interested in, or passionate about.
Some CCA do have pre-requisites
Other CCA -
no need any pre-requisite
Example 1
For certain Sports CCA like Rhythmic gymnastics (RG) -
Depend.
I)
if you are keen for your dd to join school team :-
It is best to train her early under a good RG coach, during early kindergarten days (K1 / K2), and preferably had won some Junior award(s) before she come in to join Primary 1.
This is because RGPS identify team players for RG school team, from as early as beginning of P1 Term 1 - not wait until end of P1 Term 4, nor at P3 nor P4.
Ii)
however, if you want your dd to join RG as a Recreational CCA, just to expose her to learn some gymnastics :-
then no need to prepare her.
If your dd already have some pre-school ballet background -
she can join RG, under Recreational team. This helps.
Along the way -
if our coach happen to spot some Recreational team members that have talent & potential, the coach will automatically inform teacher in charge.
The girls will then be invited / informed, to join RG School team.
Example 2
For Performing Arts CCA like Chinese Cultural dance -
The girls have to dance as one, united group at school function.
There is no \"School team\" nor \"Recreational team\", for Chinese Dance.
All P1s are welcome to join
No pre-requisite required
No need any dancing background
School will teach the girls how to dance from scratch, step by step.
Example 3
Choir
The girls sing in unison, as one united group, on school occasion & function.
No pre-requisite needed, to join choir
All P1s are welcome to join.
B)
Also how is the Chinese standard in the school?
We have heard of children from such 'angmo' schools hate Chinese....
Last year (2013 P6 batch)-
The score for Quality pass in Chinese (A/A *), in entire school was = 93.3 %
Previous years (2012, 2011 P6 batch) -
We Also scored above 90 %.
Although RGPS is not a SAP school -
Somehow our girls still can manage Chinese, 2nd language.
C) are the girls aggressive, outspoken, caring ?
Our girls are bubbly, full of energy, sharp, alert, chatty, confident, happy.
The school groom Every pupil to behave \"graciously, caring, considerate, kind, thoughtful\" to fellow school mates.
The social behavior of our girls, are closely monitored by Form tr, plus co-form tr.
Eg : whether can she work as a team player within the Team ?
is she polite or rude, in school ?
does she show respect to authority in school ?
does your dd observe school rules ?
is she humble, proud, or arrogant ?
Did she bully any children during recess time, or sitting inside school bus, etc ?
does she follow & obey instructions from Teachers, etc ?
At the end of each Term -
Starting from P1 Term 1 -
parents will receive a \"Progress Monitoring\" report, on their dd social behavior, in school.
If there are any troubled spots warning signal, they will be commented upon, inside this progress report, Term by Term.
Whether receive good or not so good comments about their own dd behavior -
The child's parents will know. -

Are you very sure 90+% scored A/A* in PSLE Chinese? More likely was 90+% passed PSLE Chinese....To get 50% of the students to score A/A* is already a difficult task, don't talk about 90+%.....

QUALITY percentage pass (A / A *) for Chinese scored in PSLE, for the entire school = 93.3 %
Inspite of the fact that RGPS is not a SAP school -
Our school had done exceedingly well !
Each year -
our school's academic performance, had improved.
Our Principal announced our brillant 2013 PSLE performance, to all parents at beginning of Term 1 2014 January during (parents meet teachers) meeting, all seated inside the Lecture Theatre. -
ok in 2012, I dont hv an accurate no. of rgps girls that entered rgs but i know for sure 70 plus did but heard after psle results about 80plus entered. 19 went to nanyang…during that year the previous P of raffles sec. came over to rgps and mentioned that she would like to see rgps girls follow up to rgs.
Every year there will be around 70 plus students that make it there including mainstream.
