DS is disappointed that today is a holiday. The class had prepared some pranks for the teachers.
Is it a norm that April Fools' Day is a holiday in RI? I can imagine that it is an unproductive school day there.
Yes, April 1 is usually designated a school holiday for the Raffles family of schools (RGS, RI, RJC) to recognize and celebrate the hard work put in by the staff and students as well as to celebrate the excellent A level results.

DS screamed when I told him this. He is very disappointed that they are forever can't do pranks in RI. They have planned to move to another class and the boys from the other class to move to their class so the teachers will think he/she went to wrong class. Too bad now the boys can't do the pranksngl2010:

Maybe the Principal & teachers know what the boys (& girls) are up to on April Fools' Day.. So, they prefer to keep the kids at home, to keep themselves \"safe\"..
DS1 came home about 10+, after breakfast with his friends.. He is in Boarding this term..

Firefly, you didn’t realize that every April 1 has been a school holiday?

I didn't know.. Whenever DS says \"no need to go school tomorrow\", I just say \"ok\".. Didn't check the date.. Or maybe I did, but thot it was just coincidental..
So, it's official ? Raffles students can't play pranks on their teachers & friends on April Fools' Day ?? -

Firefly, my DS did not performing that night. He told my there was nobody playing from his house when he came back home last Saturday night...
Hi Snowlotus. There are synopsis of the plays in RI 360 (RI 360 > News > Word of Mouth). It looks like all 5 houses presented a play each.firefly38:
Any one will go RI to attend drama fest tonight?
Snowlotus.. Your DS performing tonight ? Which House is he representing ?
Last year, Bayley and Moor were big winners..

Wow, RI knows for sure that they will always perform very well in A Levels, so can designate Apr 1 as a school holiday every year?

No they don't. So happens they performed well in the past years and that's why they celebrate it with a school holiday. It's not a given that every April 1 is a designated school holiday. The students wait in anticipation for the schools to announce it every year. And every year some of their seniors will say, don't wait too hard bec we didn't do well enough for you to have a holiday.
