Can u please enlighten us on the GPA scoring system, so that we can also learn to focus on the right things. šŸ˜‰

What is the photo-copy folks in school ?? Is it the co-op society ? Thanks for all ur help - it surely makes new sec 1 parents get more comfortable :celebrate:
I am sorry to have taken so long to answer as I was very busy at work.

For IP, the school is using the GPA scoring scheme so that the kids are geared towards the IB system. Your get 7 points for scoring >=80, 6 for >=70 etc. At the end of the year, you need to include LArts, MT, Maths, 1 from P.Sc/L.Sc, 1 from E.Sc/Hist and 1 other (ie another Science or Humans or Art) to get the total points. Add another max of 3 points form ISO/ePod. Max will be 45 points. If you have attended the briefing last Sat, you will hear that Dr Ong has some targets for each level, so as to prepare them to do well in IB. This is also used to determine if the kid should be transferred to Express stream at the end of Year2, if his score suggests that he can't cope well. That is the broad idea of GPA. For me, I only request my child to score in the 80s in most subjects, except for his strong and weak subjects. So, I don't stress both of us out. You may want to work out a plan with your child for this.

The photo-copying folks are in the old block 3rd floor, next to 2.6 classroom.

        breezy:
nice to get to know u, learning mom,

the PSG actually lets u decide if u like to operate in an active or event specific mode. no pressure at all. šŸ˜„

harini, i also didnt go for the briefing nor e tea with principal. any noteworthy points for these events u can share?

        thanx a million.
        Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, had been busssyyyy.

I attended the PSG briefing for an hour. There was a Q&A with Dr Ong and it was a nice, cosy and informal environment to ask any qtns that came to our minds as parents. Dr Ong was so patient and answered the questions with even some of his own personal experiences. We met up with the current PSG parents, there are mums and dads and most also have full time jobs. They are a wonderful group of parents who very very nice and also helped to clear some doubts new parents had abt the programme, cca, etc, etc.

In a nutshell, the PSG has many activities lined up and u can choose to join whatever u have time for - totally no pressure. They were asking for help for the Teachers Appreciation lunch on 27th May, can be in form of food or money or help out on that day also...

The school is also going to join the School Family Education(SFE) pgm. They were asking for PSG members who want to take a course by MCYS and then help out whenever there are talks arranged in school. There is also a position open for a co-ordinator, a part-time job open to interested parents !!!

The SFE pgm sounds good and I have filled out my name to know more abt taking the MCYS course and join as a volunteer to help. It may be helpful for us also as parents, as most of the courses are on how to bond with ur teenager, cyber wellness, etc. Any KSPs attended this MCYS pgme ?? If other KSPs r interested u can write to the PSG mail.

So how Breezy, Learning Mom want to join in ??? :celebrate:

Thank you so much Mandarin for your insights !! Yes, you are right it is best to focus on setting targets knowing each one's DS's strengths and weaknesses. It surely helps to understand the GPA system better. Thanks again :thankyou:
