Thank you, marzipan. Sounds good to me, but agree on the PTM should be done individually too

Thank you so much Marzipan! I am very grateful for your sharing of the school experience. πŸ™‚

        Hi mommabear,

I'm happy with the school so far.

I'm staying near Telok Blangah and going to school in the morning is no problem. Traffic is generally clear and it takes at most 15 mins drive to reach the school. Sch starts at 8am but the pupils are expected to arrive by 730am.

As it is a new school, it is difficult to gauge how good or bad it is. But I have a good feeling about the school so far. There isn't a lot of homework for my child. In fact, none at all on most days. Assessments (the sch calls them bite-sized assessments) are not only confined to the typical tests but include show-and-tell and poetry recitation as well.

There are 2 teachers (one form and co-form) to a class of 30. Parents-Teachers meetings are conducted at the end of each term. However, they are not on a one-to-one basis (a minor drawback for me as I prefer to speak to the teachers on my child's progress individaully) but done as a class.

The pupils are supposed to silent-read from the time they arrive till the school bell rings. Recess time is divided into 2 sessions: 930 to 10 and 10-1030am. The pupils are allowed to go to the playground once they've finished eating. The library is also opened during recess time.

        Hope this helps πŸ™‚

        Morning ok?

I am not familiar with the schools there but heard APS is a new school. Can mommies help to share about their feel of the school so far? What you like..what you don't like...? Are there a lot of work at P1?

How is the culture (or still new?) at the school and teachers at P1? Are kids allowed to play during recess or before school or are they strict about sitting down all the time?

Any sharing of experience shall be very gratefully received...:)

        Have a good week ahead!

I called the school to check if they are having an open house as I am keen to register my child for 2015 intake. And they have! On 31 May Sat.

I was asked to call back again in May for the actual time as they are still in midst of planning.
              FYI for those keen πŸ™‚

                Dear parents

May I know how's the canteen? Are there enough stalls to cater to the children since it is a new school? From the comments gathered so far, APS seems like quite good. I'm considering to register my son for 2015 admission.

                  Hi LittlePrinz,

There are a total of 4 stalls - drinks, buns & dim sum, Malay food & Chinese food. Today, a new stall selling international food has just opened - Tue - Japanese food.

My DS1 was pretty excited about the new stall & reminded us not to pack food for him πŸ™‚

                    Hi mommabear,

It has been a enjoyable 4 months for both DS1 & mummy too!
We stay > 2km from ALPS ( @ Sunset Way) and the drive usually takes less than 20 mins.

I feel that ALPS has a team of very experienced & caring P, VP & teachers and majority of them have more than 10 years of teaching experience. My DS1's form teacher (English Teacher) was from Qifa teaching P5/6, his Chinese Teacher was from RV Pri & Maths Teacher was from Maha Bodhi.

Even the teachers are excited about working together to develop a \"new\" culture at ALPS.

Every morning, other than silent reading, the children are encouraged to build something out of their 6 lego blocks & record them in their Little Designer Journal. Every Wed (their long day till 3:30pm), they do Hip Hop, Canvas Art & Swimming under PAL (Programme for Active Learning).

After recess, they can either go to the playground or to the library. Stimes they have fruity friday, sandwich making or an ice cream treat after recess too!

Dental care has started in school too. My DS1 just had his 1st session today. πŸ™‚
Another thing I like about the school, no one is allowed at the bookstore without permission. πŸ™‚

Term 1 was very relaxing. Hardly any homework. Spelling started week 7. Weighted bite-sized assessment only started in Term 2 - EL Show & Tell, MTL Poetry Recitation, MTL Listening Comprehension, EL Spelling Quiz, & Review Tests at end of Term. Chinese spelling started on Term 2 only.

As a parent, I enjoy the fact that as there is only one level in school now thus the ALPS team not only recognized the children, but their parents too! A big thumbs up for now πŸ™‚

Can I ask if the Student Care has started? How’s the take-up rate? And how it is run? Any parent to share experience?
