        wiselyn,

u wash the uniform once a week with washing machine? hence the need to buy 5 sets… i wonder it is ok to throw inside the washing machine since is of diff material compare to those usual cotton uniform. i am scare that it will have those rough hairy spots if u know wat i mean.

        beaniecow,
yes they will wear the same set throughout the day eventho when there is PE lesson and hence might be "smelly" esp after the PE lesson… but being kids, i think they dun bother abt this.

as for the student care, i think is jus a change of the top and not the whole set of uniform… other parents can correct me if i m wrong.

Actually… I think my kids come back smelly not because of PE… but because they play during recess time… HAHAHAHHAHAA. During the first few weeks, they come back looking so neat and proper… I can’t take it… so I asked them to play and get dirty. I actually emailed the Principal to ask when will my kids come home with mud on their uniform… which he jokingly answered "our field is astro turf… so u will never see mud on their uniform"… hahahahhaha.

Beaniecow… student care has their own top… the kids will still wear the school bottom… only change the top. Rough schedule is Lunch>complete homework>Inner Peace aka nap time if time permits>tea break>ProTeach programme (they have different programme each day)>Dismissal
Currently there is a transport to send the kids home from the student care… but I believe you have to make the arrangement with the transport vendor for this.

cyranocrash is right about the proteach schedule. I called up to find out for myself yesterday.

actually hubby and I are more inclined towards PLVPS even though it is further than Hougang PS for us. But the sch admin said they have not decided how many PVs to accept for this year’s first intake of PVs. I am hoping that they don’t take in too many so that those who are chosen will definitely get a place. If that is the case, then my hubby says at least he will feel that we can take the PV as ‘paying it forward’ which we don’t mind, as opposed to using PV to buy a RANDOM & UNGUARANTEED chance for a place.

we are proactive parents who are take an active interest in our children’s school lives. We are more than happy and willing to volunteer our services to our children’s school whenever we can, just like how we do now for the childcare centre that they attend. but the objective of the PV scheme in our local context is just…sigh.

anyway, on a different note, can someone share the difference between PAL programme and enrichment programme for P1 and P2 at PVLPS? I understand both are conducted on a weekly basis; PAL is compulsory and enrichment is optional. What else is the difference between them? What modules are offered? What fees are payable?

              Thanks for all your sharing!

                Hi parents,

Do you have any reviews of the Palm View Student care services? Can we fetch our child earlier if we happen to end work early? Your honest feedback will be much appreciated! Thank you!

Of course you can. Just have to inform the student care. But as mentioned before, the student care has their own in-house programmes (such as maths booster, media world, i-learning, character compass, etc). So if you are ok for your child to miss out on the programme, then there is no issue.

As for reviews, I'm pleased with their service so far. Most importantly, they work closely with the school and I think the school keeps a close watch on them also to ensure they maintain the standard and expectations.

                  Hope this helps.

cyranocrash, what is character compass? is it a different topic each day of the week?

I understand the school also offers optional enrichment classes. how are they different from PAL lessons?

i believe character compass is teaching values such as honesty, responsibility, etc to the kids. And yes it is a different topic each day… but it is fixed throughout the year.

As for the enrichment classes, you can view these as something like CCA programmes. CCA for primary schools begin at P3 level i think… and for established schools, they already have CCA programmes in place. So what some schools do is they tap on these CCA programmes to introduce the programmes to the P1 and P2 kids. This is to expose them to the different areas so that the kids can explore their interest.

But for Palm View, as we are a new school and we do not have P3 class until next year, what they did is introduce these enrichment programmes to cover the various ‘sectors’ such as sports, arts, music and dance & movement. The idea is again to expose the kids to the different areas and also to see how the interest is like. These programmes may or may not end up as the school’s CCA.

PAL is different… it is part of the school curriculum.

                      Hope this helps.
