I think my kiasu is still manageable…in the sense that I am still in control.
after son’s psle in 2012, I have learnt to look at the bigger pic…what is important is the children’s efforts. -
I think not much point doing practice paper the night before exam.
-
I didn’t buy any past year exam papers for daughter…used topical tests to reinforce. Night before exams would be to revise mistakes made.
What makes parents so kiasu?
the fear that kids cannot catch up in school.
But Sonny hates it whenever I suggest that.. Citing he need to revise when actually finish revising already..
Just happened last night.. Was chasing Sonny to bed when he said he wanna do more practice questions..
TA
Your sonny is a studious kid. He has the right attitude towards study.
He already half way to success even before he started out - 事半功倍。
I tink me and dh are quite kiasu, no choice, we have to follow the crowd bcos of the education system. My english and mandarin are also lousy but i still teach my kids bcos i tink kids learn better when parents are more involved in their education. I learn alongside with my kids. We bought reference books from popular on grammar, phrasal verbs, vocabulary and comprehension and most of the time i have to check the dictionary. We also sent kids for english enrichment classes bcos it is not easy to teach creative writing and comprehension.
I am hands off on teach maths bcos i dont know how to explain the logic behind the question.
Tuition centre are flourishing.
Some parents dont dare to teach in case they teach the wrong stuff to their kids or teach differently from school. Some dont have the time. Some think tat their kids learn better in a class or group env as there are games to enhance learning and competition. -
the education system is getting tougher and tougher...and always changing.
as a parent, I am afraid of teaching the wrong thing too.
due to time constraint, my kids have tuition once a week and we provide backup on the other 6 days...tutor can't do much in 1.5 hours and kids are tired if lesson is too long.
times have changed and the maths syllabus today is very different from our time...if possible, we try not to outsource but if we do not have the skill to teach the kids, we have no choice but to outsource and that means more money will need to be spent

I agree n I just cant wait for my kids to complete their education so that I don’t need to rely on tutors becos they are not only costly but a source of stress to me too.

tutors are costly...but if they can help my kids pass exams, I will sacrifice my spending and pay for tuition. just don't give me mental stress. -

My son just quit one of the center because the center class is too big. Kids do learn better in a group but the size mustnt be too big. Do your have any recommendation for centers with small class sizes? -
I just got a science tutor for my daughter through an agency which advertised here…hope tutor turns out well…I am so scared.
