my husband will be posted overseas and we plan to go over as a family. Problem is that we'll only come back when my son is 8 years old. will it be difficult to find a school of our choice when he enters at pr 2?
Hi! I don't know where you're going so I'm just gonna suggest an existing thread to you but this one is for kids returning from China. Maybe you can scan through and find some general (i.e., regardless of country returning from) procedures to follow? Here's the link: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6005 -
hi,
thanks for the link. i’ll look through it. we’ll be going to Australia. not so worried about academic part, but more worried about availability . -
Your child will definitely be able to enter the MOE schools, but one of your choice will depends on many factors.

One way is to secure your choiced school at the P1 registration and take leave of absence. You need to pay school fees in order for the school to keep the place for your son. School fee is very nominal so it is worth it. Some schools even send their school work sheets and exam papers to you. They will keep the place for you will till P6 but I think schools encourage parents to send their kids back b4 P5. -

They might require him to take entrance tests. No harm applying though.Hi All
I am in a dilemma whether to transfer my DS to another school.
Currently, he's with Edgefield Primary School, and am thinking of transfering him to St Andrew or Maris Stella after he completed P1. I don't know what are my chances of getting him in these two schools. Apparently, Edgefield doesn't have SA/ exams for P1 and P2, so I wonder how the other schools going to assess him if I wanted a transfer.
Please advise.
Lene
Have you tried giving some past year papers to 'test' his standard?
Edgefield is not bad in Punggol area. I have students from there who scored above 250 for PSLE and got into their 1st choice schools. -
Hi Poonie,
thanks for the advice regarding leave of absence. sounds like what we need. hmmm, any idea where i can find out more about it? thanks -

Good Luck! -
I have moved to commonwealth to stay already. However, my kids arev both still studying in Choa chu Kang primary. But it is really tiring to travel bet commonwealth and chua cihu kang. I did not transfer them afterall as both did last yr. It is really not easy to get into nanyang and nan hua.
Now I am thinking about transferring them to the 3 options below:
1. Zhangde pri
2. River Valley pri
3. Fairfield Methodist pri
Can anyone share their comments and any experience in tranferring to these 3 schools? I got 1 more headache as I am doing for both kids. -
Hi,
Am not sure if this is the right place to post but if I made a mistake, so sorry.
I would like to seek sdvice on how I can transfer my P3 son to another near by school. Both schools are of the same standards.
We are not happy with the way the current school is running (since the change of new principal) and woulld like to transfer him to a more wholesome and much nearer school. Problem is my son is just an average kid, nothing to add value much to the school that we want to place him in.
Are they parents who have gone through this and kind to give us some sound advice how to go about it?
Much appreciated. -
hi,
I have no such experience of transferring my kid to another school. If the reason for you to transfer your kid out is due the not satisfy with how the new principal run the school, I would think maybe you should ask your kid whether he like his current school and teachers or not. For me, having good teachers are more important then having gd principal. By transferring your kid to another better school, it will not guarantee you better teachers...so above is just my kpo advise
