Bring your own car booster seats/car seats when travelling
-
Hello
I am heading down to perth in June.
had always been a law abiding driver… was just thinking if it is worth the effort if i bring my own – since its taxi from home to airport / picking up rental car from Perth airport.
With a 7YO and 3YO boys … extra seats probably cost be AUD 60-80 more.
also concern the airlines might trash my seats… thou not expensive but sim tia is really happen:)
appreciate inputs. -
Check if the seats can be used on the airline seats. Some airlines will allow this if the car seats are designed for such use and fit their seats. Not all airline seats are the same size, so you should check carefully. It does mean 2 more things to lug on board.
Alternatively, you can check them in and have them labelled “fragile”. I have done that before and the seat arrived at destination unharmed. The simpler the car seat the better - fewer things to break, fall off etc. I wrapped mine in large garbage bags to keep them clean and dry. -
I’ve done that quite a few times. All good.

but car seats can be rented from car rental companies too right? we just rented from them or simply borrowed from our relatives living there.

Yes, I know you wanted it for the driving on the other side. But bringing it on board can mean a more comfortable ride for the child. It's a hassle to have to lug it around though - checking it in is easier.

I checked in the car seat and booster for kiddos. Just indicate fragile. All fine.

I tried renting it once when dd was 2plus, where she still nap quite abit. Super uncomfortable, especially for long road trips.
Check in the car seats. Hassle free. Doesn’t count towards luggage allowance. -
I packed my booster seat in a hand luggage and checked it in. No problem.
