Hi,

I'm staying around Aljunied area and below are the distance between the schools around:
Canossa Convent Primary : within 1 km
Geylang Methodist School : within 1 km
Kong Hwa : within 2 km
MacPherson Primary : within 1 km
Maha Bodhi : within 2 km

Due to new changes in 2014, understand that there will be 20 places allocated to phrase 2C. Any advice on chances of getting my girl into Maha Bodhi?

Or I should just enrol into Geylang Methodist for a confirm allocation? Is Geylang Methodist better or Canossa Convent a better school? I saw the passing rate to express steam result for Geylang Methodist less than 60%. @_@

Need advice on which school is better in terms of academic and character foundation.

Let me ꊛē –引ēŽ‰:

60% of pupils getting into express stream is not too bad. There are schools with 30% of pupils getting into express stream.

I had a friend whose niece studied in Canossa Convent. She was a bright girl but for some reason, she went to normal stream. I know family support is important but I thought if the school had good support in the first place, a child should be able to get 190 or 200 thereabout to qualify for the express stream. Of course, the sample size is only 1, too small to provide an objective perspective. But still, it makes me biased against the school.

Thanks for your advise.

I am sort of stuck, as I need to work and I have no helper hence on one hand I hope my daughter gets into a better school as I believe a good primary school will have a better foundation be it in Character or in academic.
However, both Maha Bodhi and Geylang Methodist are PM session. I do not know if my HB (works nightlife) will be able to wake up in time to prepare and bring my girl to school or will my girl cope with the homework.
So should I just enrol her in a AM session school to have a smoother daily process or should just let things work it out for the 1-2 years and insist on a more decent and reputable school? (understand that all Primary school will be AM session by 2016)

Any kind soul can give me a direction? I am stressing myself out just on thinking on which school and how to arrange daily meals and homework.
is it necessary to let my child complete the FULL recommended vaccine before entry into P1?

https://www.nir.hpb.gov.sg/nir/sv/eserv ... Y_IMMUNSCH

Only measles and diphtheria are required by law. The rest are recommended. Think there are a number without pneumococcal jabs.

I just tally my immunisation history record with the recommended link below and found that my child is missing on MMR(D2##), PCV (D2) and PCV(B1).

Is it a must to complete the 3 prior to registration or entry to P1?
https://www.nir.hpb.gov.sg/nir/sv/eserv ... Y_IMMUNSCH
I just notice that my child is also missing MMR(D2) but saw this link from hpb
(http://www.hpb.gov.sg/HOPPortal/health-article/630)

\"Babies who turn 12 months of age on or after 1st December 2011 should receive 2 doses of MMR vaccine as per above schedule. \" not sure what it means though :scratchhead:

MMR used to be single dose. Then it changed to 2 doses.

How does Student care function e.g. if I enrol her in Geylang methodist which will be pm session, is the school bus under the Student care centre or I need to bring her to the centre before I head to work in the morning? Do i need to get her dressed in Uniform or bring the uniforms with her and she will get bathed and dressed there? How about meals?
How much will it cost roughly to put her in student care?

Call up Geylang Methodist primary school.

Find out which are the student care centre(s), that the school recommend.
Then, go down & visit the student care centre(s), ask all questions.
from there, make a wise decision.

Different student care centre charge differently :-
Depend on whether you want your child to receive extra tuition inside the student care centre, or no need tuition.
For fees - best to ask that student care centre, directly.
Only they can provide you the detailed info you need to know.

It depends on whether you choose one near your home or near the school. Nearer home is much easier. Then you can send her in the morning before you go to work. Then she will take school bus from the centre. If near school, you may wanna check if the centers have pick up services. Then you can send her via school bus with the morning session children. Student care centers have their own sets of uniforms, so she will probably wear that there. Meals are taken care of by the student care of course. As for charges, you need to call them to ask. All charge differently. If near home, then during school hols also don't have to worry about transport. The student care will also take care of them during the holidays.
