Schools closing door on parent volunteer scheme
-
Makes sense as some popular schools are over-flooded with PVs.
-
It’s a mercenary scheme - I do this for you and you give that to me. And in popular schools, those who can afford to do pv are the richer parents. It’s a scheme that encourages elitism and entitlement attitude - I live nearby and the school is mine. It should have been scrapped long time ago.

All this school is Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. So those parent can still go through Clan route. Those who dialect is NOT hokkien but live near the school will be more difficult to go into those school.

Good day to all… read the whole article and there is a passage saying : reserving 40 vacancies for children with no ties to the school… Does this mean 40 places are reserved for Phase 2 C ?
-
Clan route still got to go through PV work, although other factors will come into play.
So effectively I take it to mean that non Hokkiens will be more shut out from these schools (those with no older siblings/alumni/work ties will still have 2C).
This direction is the school’s perogative, so will leave it at that. -

Yes, 40 places for phase 2c...for those with no connections to the school.
Hokkien Huay kuan banned the download of their schools' exam papers on website. -

The last time I stepped into popular, I saw this compiled schools of past year exam papers for sale…does the hokkien Huay kuan have a right to do that? Are their teachers funded by clan or MOE?
The other thing…PV is free labour for the school although there is no guarantee…would anyone do so for free? Time is precious for everyone. There is no idea how schools select PVs.
Clan associations/church and grassroots fall under 2B as well as asking MP for help. -

Starting from the 2014 Primary One (P1) Registration Exercise, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will reserve 40 places in every primary school for registrants in Phase 2B and 2C to ensure continued open access to all primary schools. The 40 places will be reserved for Phase 2B and 2C (20 places for each phase) before the start of the P1 Registration Exercise.
