All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

phtthp:
If you're rejected for PV, schools will not disclose the reason(s) why you're rejected.
This happen not only to Horizon primary, but other schools too.
Normally the reason for rejection is because out of so many applications to offer PV -
Whatever you can offer : do not fit into what the school want.
With so many PV applications pouring in, it is the school who choose the parents.
Sigh, but isnt it kinda unfair as they dont even know what we can offer to the school rite?it was merely filling up the application form & that's it..
We're stayin >1km,but <2km to the school.. -
In view of new ruling from MOE that 40 seats to be reserved for Combined Phases (2B + 2C) :-
Primary schools are now cautious of getting too many PVs in.
Thus, many schools are now keeping the number of PVs small, unlike in the past. Some even announced on their website that they had abolished PV scheme.
In choosing PVs :-
some schools are also giving priority to children who are SC, and whose parents (father and mother) are also both SC.
Besides just looking at distance.
Some schools are very particular.
They already have in mind what type of specific skills they’re specifically looking for.
Some schools choose to keep their number of PV very low.
Once they reach this low figure, anymore further incoming PV requests -
They’ll just reject. Not going to entertain anymore.
In any case, schools know that if parents fail to get PV offer :-
parents can always turn to Grassroot leader activity road.
Let GRC manage these parents, instead.
It is not a dead end.
Both GRC and PV fall under the same Phase : 2B.
In short, going forward -
PV route getting tougher & tougher. -
Thanks phtthp…
Any idea where i can get more info on the GRC leader ? Looks like i have to resort to that ady…TIA -
I'm thinking of applying for PV for my 2011 born child for Rosyth Primary. We are staying within 1km vicinity. Will doing PV 'double' up the chances or it's actually bout the same? Will really appreciate any advise here.

Hello parents, I'm Pearl Lee from The Straits Times. Most of you have heard that some schools are doing away with the PV scheme, especially schools under Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan - Tao Nan, Ai Tong, Kong Hwa and Nan Chiau. Are you affected by this change? Please contact me at [email protected] if you don't mind sharing your experiences. Will pass my handphone number to you via PM too. Thank you!
