I took my son out of supplementary classes...if the purpose is just to get past year papers done, I see no point attending them.janet_lee88:
Next week, a drilling process starts......
5 days a week - intensive class after school dismissal
Last till end of term 3. :faint:
5 days a week till end of term 3 will make kids burn out before PSLE. That is as good as not sitting for it.
I really concern that my child will be burn out before PSLE....
I guess I need to let my child to rest on Sunday to 'recharge' energy and mentality...effective next week.... (totally no revision except to clear up school homework)
Each children are different. Each child's endurance level is different. You have to judge your child's endurance level yourself. Attending supplementary classes does not necessarily mean not beneficial. Maybe if already doing many past year papers in school, then no need to do additional past year papers at home. The key is to balance work and rest/relax time. -
Actually, I do not really mind the school holding more extra lessons and giving more homework in July & August, and then gradually going easy on intensity in September…
The closer it is to PSLE, the more our kids need to feel relaxed and at ease with themselves & everything else… -

No school can force you to make your child attend if you feel it's not beneficial or too tiring. You can speak to the FT or principal and give your reasons. You will probably be told that you bear full responsibility if your child doesn't do well, but that's their way of protecting themselves.Cannot opt out
It is compulsory. :slapshead: -
Sigh… dunno why fingers so itchy, landed here and saw the topic on supplementary lessons. My first experience with PSLE is still far away. This is what was told to me by a current teacher, not fr my kiddos’ school, full time teacher with no sideline job.
Pls note different schools prep their students differently and this the sharing of a particular teacher fr a particular school, so I have no infor that all schools do it this manner.
She told me supp classes taught core materials meaning what’s needed to prep for PSLE and not extra materials. She told me she worried abt students who do no attend supp classes becos not sure if these students have the necc academic support otherwise.
My point? Have open comms with the teachers.
Not judging and not trying to sway decision one way or the other, just sharing. -

My DC can endure the hardship with no complain......only mummy worry....worry DC eats less in order to finish up homework and revision at home. The prolong drilling in school means that my DC will be eating lesser than usual...likely to lose weight... -
For chinese oral, will they ask questions like chinese new year or hari raya tradition as it may be unfair to students of other races as all pictures will be same for all language exams ? How about english oral? Will they ask about wedding dinner etc as different races especially kids have limited exposure to such.
BTW, my lower primary boy oral book has church wedding picture. I kind of find it unfair to lesser exposed kids. -

Pardon my being blunt. You reckon your dd will do badly without this tutor? 255 is a good score (at least to me la). I'm sure your dd deserves her share of credit.Better to get recommendation for private tutor with track records one.
That was how I got mine and my eldest got 255 for PSLE last year.
Anyway, it's so close to psle now. Surely all the good tutors are already booked out. Not saying those who are still available are not good hor

Most good and reputable tutors get booked out before the year even starts and their turnover rate is low. There is no need for them to really look for students. Students look for them.

Kids deserve as much credit if not more credit than the tutors. Tutors are just there to point the kids to the 'light'. The kids are ultimately the ones who are taking the exams. School teachers are also contributing to the results.
My friend is looking for P4 English tutor. All my tutor friends turned the assignment down cos they have no slots. If any parent genuinely has good tutor to recommend, please voice out. Thanks. -
Give credit to kids when they do well…tutors can do that much, but if kids do not want to help themselves, whatever tutor does is not going to work.
In a stressful environment, the kid might freak out…all the effort goes down the drain. So when kid does well getting 255, he/she deserves credit for braving through.
