Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Other than having a long history (81 years) and having produced 2 President's Scholar, a couple of notable alumni and becoming 1 in about 12 primary SAP schools in Singapore, PCPS is only an average school.floppy:
Pei Chun Public School (PCPS) is considered a \"good school\".
Err.........on what basis - academic, facilities, teachers/ principals, values,..... ?
SAP Sch meaning kids take Higher Chinese with no option to choose \"Normal Chinese\"?
PCPS is an average school?? Base on academics, I would think that PCPS is above-average..... no?
To me, Pei Chun is good enough for me to PV for 60 hours in order to be in phase 2B.
Strong in Chinese value (just go round the school premise and you will know) friendly teachers (able to reach teachers easily either over phone or email), friendly parents (we have whatsapp group and organise yearly gathering) and good communicator (newsletter, parents portal.....)
Most important of all, my boy enjoys going to school daily. He likes his teachers, environment and friends. -

Sarcasm is, unfortunately, lost in print.

PCPS is definitely a good school. -
All schools are good schools…but whatever schools kids are in, don’t leave it to teachers to do the work.

Haha, so true. Sometimes I wonder whether it's the sch or parents' socioeconomic background that matters more. -
I am surprised, I thought PCPS is still one of the top Primary schools? Didn’t know it has been downgraded to an average school now.

Some parents have the impression that schools are the ones to teach their kids...the comments made are, 'I send kids to school for teachers to teach. Why else would I send them to school for?'janet_lee88:

I think socioeconomic background plays a big part too.
In a class of 30 in p1/2, 40 from p3 onwards, how would one expect the teacher to reach each and every pupil? Parents have to do their part of revising on the back end...yet not to the stage of super kiasu...as in 2 tutors for each subject. -
It was mentioned in yesterday’s asiaone that our teachers spend more time doing administrative work than teaching.
It has nothing to do with being kiasu…but parents really have to teach their kids…from teaching abc, 123 and manners. Teachers are not parents.
They teach, they give worksheets as homework. While hubby and I do not believe in handing in homework done perfectly (meaning we do it), the areas which kids do not really understand, we make a note and reinforce using assessment book. -
Hi all,
I have a boy born on 2 Jan 2009. According to MOE rules, he will only be eligible for P1 registration in Jul 2015 and he is supposed to start P1 in Jan 2016.
I understand that children born on 1 Jan 2009 are eligible to start P1 in Jan 2015. I would like my boy to start P1 in Jan 2015. Any idea who I should write to in order to appeal? Will the Principal be the appropriate person to speak to? -

i think you have to appeal to MOE. -
Hi p1 parents,
All the best to your children’s registration.
Remember, you guys have to do your part too and not let teachers do all the work.
