Cedar Girls Secondary School

I’m really happy your daughter chose Cedar Girls’ ! I was also contemplating between Cedar and crescent and in the end I chose Cedar IP and I’m really happy there! Not only as there jogging periods every week to keep us fit (I’m in track and field so i enjoy running), but the environment there is much more conducive for learning! The seniors and juniors there are very bonded, especially in CCAs. What CCA is your daughter in? I live in Queenstown (which is VERY near Crescent) but in the end I chose Cedar. Even though it takes about 45 min every day to get to school, I never regretted my choice to go to Cedar instead. Not only does Cedar have the VCA Programme (Victoria-Cedar Alliance) or IP which will bring the IP students into VJC, most Cedar students end up in prestigious colleges such as VJC and RJC. Also, since I’m a girl, I take the appearance of the uniforms into consideration. Cedar has a really cute yet smart blue blouse paired with a grey skirt and tie, while Crescent has a yellow blouse with a green pleated skirt. I much prefer Cedar’s uniform
And yes, my opinion is very biased because I’m in Cedar. Hope you daughter has/had a great time in Cedar! -

Does any parents know when is the open house for P6 students this year? Does the school have Chinese Orchestra CCA through DSA? Thanks a lot.
Hi there! Cedar doesn't have Chinese Orchestra as a CCA as far as I know. -
I have a favor to ask from current Cedarian. I would like to get the school badge and tie. Gonna hang them up together with the uniform I bought, inspire my girl to work hard towards her goal. :rahrah:
If anyone can help, pls pm me. Thanks! -

Any parents here with girls in the cross country CCA?
Understand the school has employed an external trainer for this CCA. He has re-scheduled the trainings to days when the girls are having short days like Tue and Thu, instead of the original Mon, Wed and Fri. I am rather unhappy with the new training days cos my girls do not get to come home early on the only day, ie, Thu anymore.
And this trainer is rather demanding in expecting them to train outside school. Eg. this Thu is a short day (ends at 11am) since it is having Teacher’s Day celebration. Yet he wants the girls to train in MacRitchie at 3.45pm. What are the girls to do during that 4.45 hrs. He said it is to allow them to go back to their primary schools to visit their teachers. My girls’ primary school is just next to my house. Do they have to travel home and then travel back to MacRichite??? The trainer is being ridiculous and unreasonable.
Any complaint from other parents? Can we write a petition to the school and complain? -
Daranic,
What is there to complaint and write petition? In fact all the CCA regardless is it sport, UG, music or dance ensemble got their hectic schedule to fulfilled.
Cedar is very good and proud in their Track & Field team and Cross country are their niche CCA that help win them numerous National champion in respective division over the years.
I am not surprised at all for their hectic schedule in training.
You can either voice it out to the respective head of that CCA and tell them about your concern and ask your DD whether she still like to continue and be in her current CCA or not.
If you feel that her CCA is too time consuming for your child, you can drop out of tat CCA and transfer to another CCA where there is lesser time for your child to commit.
Dun worry about the CCA your daughter in and the amount of time she got to spend, the school culture and the teachers will ensure that all the students will be all rounded in their CCA and their studies and it’s a good practice for the child to learn how to prioritise and juggle between the study and CCA time.
In fact, all schools involved in sport CCA usually have a very hectic schedule to face. And this is the reality in every school.
Btw, you should be more happier and contend that now your daughter have to commit 2 days of her CCA time compare to the original 3 days she have before. -
abachee:
It is not 2 days now. It is still 3 days as previous arrangement, except that trainings are on Tue, Thu and Fri/Sat. Initially it was to be Sat, but cos some of the girls don't want to train on weekend, he opened up Fri as another option.Daranic,

I am NOT complaining about the hectic schedule. But rather the timing of the trainings. It used to on days when the school hours end at 3.15pm on most days. But now that trainings are on Tue, Thu and Fri/Sat, these few days are their short days, so they have to stay longer in school on almost all 5 days.
