2014 P1 Registration Exercise for 2015 In-Take
-
Ning78,
Doing parent volunteer work will put you in phase 2B, a phase earlier than the mad rush 2C phase. The chance of getting in a school is naturally higher compared to the later phase where you meet stiffer competition. However, most schools' PV application would have closed by now for 2015's registration.
Placing kids in single-sex or co-Ed schools is a very personal choice. For me, if the co-Ed school and girls' school are on par in all ways, I would prefer to put my daughter in a girls' school as I believe that girls are generally more hardworking and hopefully, they will influence my girl to be likewise, compared to having boisterous boys in the environment
Some parents prefer their children to have the opportunity to socialize with the opposite sex. -
Hi Ning78,
Yes, co-ed or single gender schools are very much a personal preference. There are studies that show that boys learn at a slower pace than girls for languages. Boys are also more playful. So girls may outperform the boys in co-ed schools at the lower primary levels. But once they reach P5 or so, some boys “wake up”. That’s why you can see top PSLE performers who are boys.
I put my children in single gender schools because it’s a tradition for my family and relatives.
If you came from a co-ed school and liked it, go ahead and put your kid in a co-ed school. Most of your top choices are co-ed schools anyway. -

you have higher chance if u r staying within 1km n perform PV then others who r PVs n living outside 1km. why not PV if u hv the time. on the other hand you may not be selected for PV if the school is popular. care to share which Pri sch u r aiming? :xedfingers: -

My take is, if you have the time, and can get selected, just do it. No harm.

Hello! Been searching for this thread for the longest time…
I have a boy due for registration in 2014 and start P1 in 2015. -
Anyone trying Nan Hua Primary without PV at Phase 2C based on 1km criteria?

CCMC also takes in current long serving GRL, its sub-comm like WEC, YEC etc do not qualify for the P2B privilege. Most MC does not open to anyone since it's \"management\", not play play and also not appropriate, since newbies may join and leave after getting P2B. Anyway, to go by GRL route seems to be too late for your case. It requires minimum 2 years from observers (to even start with this may already take months due to PA's process) to the June of the year you register.winnieng78:
Reporting here!
We r staying in west, within 1km of nan hua, clementi and Qifa.
My pv application to nan hua has failed twice miserably. Anyone who can give me tips on what is required is greatly appreciated.
My grl application is also no luck.
Can only qualify nc, but no space.
Can't go rc
Can't go CCC cos CCC only takes in people from nc and rc
Can't go CDC cos CDC only take in people from ccc.
Now still need to check what's CCCmc, the last c which I have not tackled.
Same situation!
If I chose to sit and ballot for nan hua in 2c, it would mean I can't even turn back to clementi or Qifa in 2c supp as it may all be full or need ballot....
I am really clueless how to proceed.... -

Depend on which school you wish to PV.Hi Mummies

There are schools that have no balloting in P2B but yes in P2C. In this case if you are in the distance for balloting if under P2C, then try to PV. I was in this category. I PVed and successfully registered under P2B
There are schools that ballot in both P2B for certain distance and P2C for certain distance. If you in the safe distance, should still PV if you can. If you are in the balloting distance. You can consider to PV so that you will have a chance in P2B and another chance in P2C
There are some schools that have balloting for both P2B and P2C <1km. If you are 1km and more, there are parents who will still PV. I'm not sure if this applies to all schools but I know in one school, the PV were placed on waiting list and PV were indicated on the list. I assume this would give them priority over other non-PV in the list. This is only my own conclusion, not sure how accurate.
But if the school that you wish to PV do not have such priority in cases of waiting list then you will have to consider of you are outside of the balloting distance.
I know it's a bit mercenary to think abt PV in such a way but if you have limited time then need to consider more carefully.
All the best to you.
