        seathtan,

in my opinion, i’d rather go for a sch nearer to home, and which I won’t need to ballot. i’m only considering a sch away from where I stay now as it is near my IL’s place. the sch which i’m considering is abt 10 mins drive from my house. I think it’ll be worse if my kid takes sch bus coz he will have to wake up very early.

Distance will not be a problem if you are able to drive your child to/fro school daily.

distance still will be an issue unless school surroundings no traffic type (impossible) and at least one parent stay at home elsehow kiddo go home after class.

Yes I agree. Like today, it was raining so heavily from 5++am till almost 9am at my place. We all wanted to sleep in. Early in the morning I already see heavy traffic forming just right outside my house. ( I stay within 500m of 3 schools. Secondary schs that is)
Horns were blaring nonstop bcos everyone was probably rushing due to heavy rain and peak hour traffic.
I told myself...no way am I gonna wake up at 5am to prepare bfast etc and then send my kiddos to sch for the next 10+ yrs...

                  OCK:
Can someone advise the different between 2A1 and 2A2?

2A1 definition : (a) For a child whose parent is a former student of the primary school and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 June 2013

2A2 : (a) For a child whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice

Both mentioned parent are ex student of the school.
                  2A1 paid alumni fees

Possible balloting at early stages for P1 registration

SINGAPORE: Primary school registration is in its early stages, but a small number of schools could see balloting at the next phase, 2A(2).

If this happens, it would be the first time children whose parents are former students of the school have to ballot for a spot.

Registration started earlier this month, and so far, has only involved children with family links to the schools.

There are a total of seven phases in the primary school registration process.

Phase 2A(1), which ended on Tuesday, was for children with parents who are members of the school alumni association, or who hold senior positions in the school.

The upcoming round, 2A(2), is also for children of former students and school staff.

Eight schools now have fewer than 50 vacancies for this phase, so balloting could happen.

CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School in Ang Mo Kio has the fewest spots, at 14. Catholic High School in Bishan has 27, while Methodist Girls' Primary in Bukit Timah has 37.

Nan Hua, Pasir Ris, Cedar, Henry Park, and Singapore Chinese Girls’ Primary each have between 42 and 48 spots left.

Most of these schools have alumni associations, and their members were able to register their children at phase 2A(1).

But Pasir Ris and Cedar Primary do not have alumni associations, so those who registered so far are only children with siblings already in the school, and children of former students will only be applying at the upcoming phase.

More than half of Singapore's close to 187 schools have 100 or more places available for the next phase, and are not total vacancy numbers.

With a new rule this year, every school has 40 more spots set aside for later phases 2B and C, for children with no family connections to the school.

Hmmm at this rate schools like St nicks and Cat High might have to ballot at 2A1 next year…
