      hi all,

Would like to solicit opnions from all:

In view of the tight vacancies situation at MGS, will it be wise to move our focus to Geylang Methodist for P2B? The problem is it's a good 10-12km away from where we live, I wonder if it's a pragmatic choice, considering it would be a day-to-day travel for the kid?

I would like to hear from those experienced parents staying relatively far from the school and their experiences. Thank you.

      ST
Although both are Methodist schools, there is a difference in the academic standard, between these two schools.
Geylang Methodist academic standard, is an average neighborhood school.
MGS is one of the Top schools.

10 to 12 km is far, traveling daily is tiring for your child.
Consider other schools, nearer your house.

St Nicholas (full school) left only 14 seats, for 2A2.

        Sure to ballot.

To help SC 2A2, next week
        - ask all PRs to come out.

        - ask all those who studied only in Secondary school but never from Primary school, to come out & give way to those who had studied 6 long years in primary school.

Those who can produce primary school report cards -
be given priority, to enrol first.
Admit all of them first, for 2015 P1 intake.
Do not subject them to balloting.
After all, they had studied 6 long years, in their primary school.
        6 long years !
6 long years, is a long time !
They should be given priority, over others.
This is only fair to them.
        What is fairness ?

Those without primary school report card -
Means they only come from the Secondary school section -
Let them ballot amongst themselves, under 2A2.
After all, they never studied in St Nick primary, before.
their primary school is somewhere else.
They are alma mater of some other primary schools, but not St Nicholas primary.
Is not that they don't have any primary school alma mater, to go back to.
In fact, they can go back to their alma mater.

So, why should they be given the same equal treatment, as those who had studied 6 long years, at St nick primary ?

Principal of CHIJ St Nicholas full school -
Should seriously consider this, when wondering how to handle balloting situation, for Phase 2A.

And parents whose daughters had studied 6 long years in St Nick primary -
should also fight for your daughter's right.
Write to school, and to MOE.

In the past, because no need to reserve any seat: everything went smoothly.
But Now, With 40 seats reserved, scenario had changed.

This year, Yes, balloting happen to 2A2.
But what happen when next year or later years come, when more and more 2A2 pay alumni fees, move up to 2A1 ?
Don't you think there will come a time one fine day when 2A1 will need to ballot too, and bypass 2A2 ?
Of course that day will come.
It is only a matter of time

This apply to other Full schools too.

Find out how long your child needs to be on the bus. Consider if there is direct mrt lines because when your child goes upper primary, your child can take public transport. If there is direct mrt line between your place and school, you can consider. Take my child's case for instance, though we are more than 10km from school, there is direct mrt service and bus service to school. You can still waitlist in nearby schools as a back up just in case your child grumbles about the long distance.

              seathtan,

in my opinion, i’d rather go for a sch nearer to home, and which I won’t need to ballot. i’m only considering a sch away from where I stay now as it is near my IL’s place. the sch which i’m considering is abt 10 mins drive from my house. I think it’ll be worse if my kid takes sch bus coz he will have to wake up very early.

Distance will not be a problem if you are able to drive your child to/fro school daily.

distance still will be an issue unless school surroundings no traffic type (impossible) and at least one parent stay at home elsehow kiddo go home after class.

Yes I agree. Like today, it was raining so heavily from 5++am till almost 9am at my place. We all wanted to sleep in. Early in the morning I already see heavy traffic forming just right outside my house. ( I stay within 500m of 3 schools. Secondary schs that is)
Horns were blaring nonstop bcos everyone was probably rushing due to heavy rain and peak hour traffic.
I told myself...no way am I gonna wake up at 5am to prepare bfast etc and then send my kiddos to sch for the next 10+ yrs...

                        OCK:
Can someone advise the different between 2A1 and 2A2?

2A1 definition : (a) For a child whose parent is a former student of the primary school and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 June 2013

2A2 : (a) For a child whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice

Both mentioned parent are ex student of the school.
                        2A1 paid alumni fees
