      Hi,

can i check, based on the above posting, for phase 2C, both Temasek and St Hilda need to ballot even for within 1km.

      how about phase 2B ?
if within 1 - 2km, does it need to ballot too ?
      2013 Phase 2B

      Refer
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum ... start=1020

      St Hilda primary (#27)
Balloting for SC children : between 1 to 2 km

      Tampines primary
No need to ballot, under Phase 2B

alice118, next year when SHPS moves back to their original site, there will be student care. However I am not sure who qualifies for the student care.

we are of indian origin and recently moved to singapore on EP. we enrolled our son in an indian school here. being convinced that the singapore education system is an amazing one, we applied to the MOE for a place for our 6.5 years old son in P1. luckily, they reverted back to us with a vacancy in Yumin Primary School in Tampines-a school near to our residence. However, once we got what we wanted (i guess its true what they say- be careful what u wish for…u might just get it!!!), we are now confused. no one in our circles seem to know how the school is…another point for woorying is the language option- we have to pick chinese or malay. we are worried that our son might not be able to cope with the language, esp as compared to native speakers…or is it a doable thing with private tuituions but no help from parents!!!and i might be wrong in thinking this, but how big an impact does the class mix have on the child? will my son be fine if he is the only expat in the class??i dont want him missing out on childhood experiences of great friends!!!like i said, dont get me wrong- just thinking of it from the child’s point of view…will the rest in his class adapt to a stranger within them??will he be left alone?? am so totally confused!!!will be grateful if i could get some advice and guidance…

Hi! And welcome to Singapore! I can’t help on specifics, but my kids have been in schools overseas in the past and I know how you must be feeling. Just some suggestions:

Have you been to speak to the school principal and look around the school? That way, you can get a feel of the school. Most schools will take special care of kids in P1, have a buddy system etc, so I don’t think you need worry much. But share your concerns with the principal and see what he/she says.

Being the only foreigner in class isn’t going to be an issue, I think. There will definitely be other Indians (by ethnicity, even though they may be Singaporeans) in the school, and probably in the same class too, and kids won’t worry about nationality. Kids are also remarkably race-blind unless others (like parents and grandparents etc) influence them otherwise. And since they all won’t know each other anyway, your son can start making friends at the same time as everyone else. It’s not like he’s joining in P2 or later. Anyway, my kids have moved from school to school a lot at various stages in their school life, and they’ve always managed to make friends.

Language options - again, speak to the principal. There may be some other options, or at least he/she can give you advice.

                Hope this helps.

SHPS is located at the holding site in bedok now and they will move back this year sometime in November. If you plan to register in this school the address will be Tampines.

                        From MOE's website: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissi ... g-schools/

Registration at New Upper Changi Road, the holding location.
