oh..ow yang lou shi? she was my son's p1 chinese teacher...son and his friends find her very fierce 🙂

Hi..I am new to this thread..but my dd 2 is from River Valley.Ms Ow Young was also her teacher.Yeah..she's fierce..and strict..my dd2 tells me that she always spends some time reprimanding the boys - she very strict about homework and that must be completed properly. But she is a very responsible teacher..you will be rest assured the assignments will be marked and everything that is to be done followed up..need such a teacher to cultivate good habits ..for the work that is to come.

If this helps, the rvps teachers keep in touch with parents..if anything, all these years, I have never had a single email from any form teacher that has not been promptly replied to and followed up on.. 😄

Agree that the teacher sounds fierce but I have to say she is very energetic, hope she can capture the attention of her students… my dd say she quite enjoy the class, and she has not been scolded by teacher yet. Well, if you had walk over to the next class which also had a chinese class on, you will be glad that teachers like Ms Ow Yong exist.

Anyway, hope all the children are coping well with the work load so far, which I felt was not too bad. The assignments are manageable and my dd is happy with the environment, teachers and classmates, thats all we hope for in a school anyway. Happy schooling…

yes. sometimes, it’s good to have fierce teachers. they will be able to control the naughty kids better.

my son was punished before for talking during her lesson. served him right!

yah. son’s form teachers have been good so far…especially this year’s form teacher. he responded to my questions very promptly. i dropped him an email last night to ask how to solve one maths question. he responded immediately!

Yeah..we parents need this sort of support from the schools..it can only benefit the child..

I sense the school's foci have changed since the new Principal took over..the expectation for learning and therefore teaching is higher..
I am glad for I think no student in the school should be compromised on academic progress or excellence..already most of the staff are approachable and friendly.. it's a 'kind' culture..

Nah..my dd is in Pr 4..juz finished the CA 1..

I did attend the workshop in her P1 year..could be a different one now..not to sure of that.. I gained a lot of knowledge on the subject ..it helped me to assist her when she read her text out loud..to read the words with the right sound but I did not have the energy nor the interest(i suspect) to follow up after Pr 1.

Chinese is not my forte :stupid:

She has a patient home tutor for this subject

I’ve got 2 boys - P3 and P4. Any parents want to share their concerns? Yes, just done with CA1. I’ve the following concerns which I may raise to the School:

                    (1) Heavy school bag. This year especially, I’ve noticed there are additional ‘assessment’ books which are heavy and thick i.e. Challenging Maths & Science Process Skills and PSLE Science (orange book). I do not know how to solve this problem despite them having lockers in classroom. Any suggestion?

                    (2) For P3, there are only 4 periods of Science per week, which I feel is too little. The teachers simply couldn’t finish teaching the syllabus, not to mention teaching additional stuff. Some classes have to make their pupils stay back 1-2 days in the afternoons before the CA1. My DS’ Science teacher used the Art and SS periods to cover the topics just before CA1.

                    (3) I have the feeling that the School is aiming high by setting tough questions in tests and exams. I’m not sure if this is good for the children. Some parents I know feel that this will demoralise the kids. I got feedback that this CA1 was tough esp English paper. This I have to look at the papers next week.

Hi, I'm thinking of registering my girl into RVPS this year. Doing PV there so stand a good chance to get it. Kids seem to be quite happy here, though a bit noisy during recess and after school (maybe same in other school I'm not sure). May I ask you guys what kind of CCA's are available in the school? How are the teachers? are there a lot of homework?

                      Hi minnie2004,

I will register my boy into RVPS this year as well, hope we can exchange and share info in future... 😄 keep in touch!
